Personally I think there was a lot of fat that could have been trimmed from that cross over.

Also I am finding I want a lot more competency from all the "heroes" again.

Still once it got going and into the actual story it wasn't too bad.

And yeah even though I could tell they were working up to writing Stein out his death was still heart wrenching.

I wonder if that ending funeral comment about "Jacks still being boned to Stein" means he can still transform?

Yeah there is something at least along those lines coming up.

Almost certainly.  We don't know for sure yet exactly what is going to happen but it seems pretty obvious they are going to contrive something along those lines.
