One of my friends is trying to get back into painting and has offered to paint a star of Jade Falcon mechs for me as a way to get into practice.  He wants to paint up a Heirofalcon and a Jade Phoenix, both of which I have several minis of, but I'm wondering what other mechs to put in.  Was thinking of a Loki II.  He's intending it to be Jiyi's Falcons even though they don't have access to the Jade Phoenix or Heirofalcon.

Cougar, Black Lanner, Turkina.

Kansas City players, or people who are just passing through the area, come join us at the Geekery just off Shawnee Mission Parkway for BattleTech!  Current days are Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening.  I can't make every single week, but odds are pretty good that somebody will be there.

Cougar, Black Lanner, Turkina.

Replace one of the above with a Night Gyr if you feel the need to.

Definitely a Turkina to go with those two. I’d recommend a second Heirofalcon and the Hel to fill out the Star.

More Clan Stars should average medium or low end heavy weight.  The Star obesity epidemic has plagued Clan forces for over 30 years.  Enough is enough.

Jade Phoenix
Heirofalcon

If you’re looking for existing plastic
Fire Falcon
Black Lanner
Summoner

That gives you one of each weight class, and two mediums.

Since it’s a “training” star for you, this probably doesn’t matter much.  But I’d stay away from slower designs like the Turkina and Hel.  They’ll have a hard time keeping up with the Jade Phoenix and Heirofalcon, especially in difficult terrain.  I think 4/6/4 movement is the minimum for this star.  Black Lanner, Flamberge, Night Gyr, Grand Summoner, and Summoner would be my Falcon omni preferences for this star.  Nothing wrong with older Clan omnis like a Timber Wolf, Mad Dog, Stormcrow, or Nova.  Or the newer Mad Cat IV or Vulture IV sold by the Foxes.

If you don’t care about keeping the star all omnis, there’s the Jade Hawk, Gyrfalcon, and the like.  If you are watching BV, there are smaller Falcon omnis like the Cougar, Uller, and Ion Sparrow, but they’re fragile.

Okay, so question I had that I meant to ask here: what's the status of the Shrike in the Falcons now, given all three Falcon splinter-groups are strongly anti-Malvina and anti-Mongol?

In terms of stigma? I'm not sure if there's been any mention one way or another.

In terms of production / availability -- as far as I know it's one of the bigger unresolved items since the Falcon collapse. From an older post of mine;

The big question mark is where are Eagle Craft Group's mobile factories?
Did the Horses get one or all of them? Marena? Jiyi? Alaric/Stephanie?
Are some unclaimed -- trying to run back 'Falcon' space with Jiyi, Marena, Alaric, and the Sea Foxes all trying to grab them?
Who knows ...

Production of the Grand Summoner, Shrike, and whatever else they could retool to for custom runs -- are up for grabs.

They are still classified as pro-Malvina aligned mechs (especially painted in Mongol Black) as evidenced in the latest novel.

Nothing says they’re bad mechs, and obviously if you’re in a bright green one as a freeborn you’re good, but people’s first reactions are ‘oh hell Mongol Jade Falcons’.

Until Jiyi and the Falcon Remnant get control of the narrative every planet they meet might as well do a recreation of Spaceballs “oh s$&*, there goes the planet.

Reminds me of the TRO 3145 entry for the Eyrie: any IS pilot who salvages one will just tear it apart for parts because otherwise he would be fighting with a big mark on his back.

Not wrong: the only problem is the Falcon sub-factions are in for the fight of their lives. They dont have the trained personnel and while they’re sitting on stockpiles of weapons every mech counts. They’d be foolish to give up a perfectly good mech (especially an assault mech).

None of them have production of the Shrike as far as I can tell, and all of them are busy producing other assault-class machines that can perform the same duties, so it doesn't fill an otherwise missing gap in their forces.  Well, except for the Terran Falcons, but we still don't know precisely what's going on there.

1000%. And as the books state they’re missing more people than gear. Mothball the thing if need be but no reason to get rid of a good mech: it just needs a bright green paint job instead of the Mongol Black and Gold..

Checked Sarna for a moment and the Shrike is only build on Erewhon right? According to Sarna Erewhon is now a possesion of the Hell's Horses (oh the irony). So I would assume the Falcons will either mothball said Mech(for one maybe limited spare parts or making a clean break with Malvina the Mad), pilot them to pieces or open a new line on another planet. We only have a small hint in Empire Alone what is currently happens on Terra in terms of producing war materials (Mechs stamped with Clan Wolf markings from Terra being sold by the Foxes). I assume that they don't produce Falcon Mechs as the Falcons are just a small minority right now and probably are equipped with the best Mechs the Wolves have to underscore WHO is actually ruling.

Put me in the group that doesn't see anyone who currently possesses a Shrike as trying to get rid of the thing. The 1st Kearny Highlanders are known to have at least one, and if those prickly curmudgeons are willing to hold on to a Shrike, there's definitely not enough of a stigma to dissuade anyone else.

There might be individual warriors who would say no to a Shrike, but I don't see any group-wide policy, for any faction.

Lord, thank you for saying something. The Shrike, even under Malvina's reign, certainly didn't earn the kind of reputation that the Celestials did, and all of this pearl-clutching and hand-wringing over the design continuing to be used is so silly.

EA doesn’t confirm Terran production of Wolf designs. The POV character in the sidebar wonders if the wolves are making new mechs already, or if the wolves took so many losses that Foxes grabbed a bunch of salvage. I’m gonna be surprised if the Terran wolves (the remnant of military arm of a nation that was founded with “only the critical lower castes” of a previously partially collapsed nation) have the people to immediately convert the factories and infrastructure over to produce so many 100% clanSpec designs that the foxes are selling the spares. And do that in four months to fit the timing in EA’s sidebar.

My guess is Wolfes and falcons are probably going to be operating on what they brought with that survived, augmented with RAF production as mechs end up unrepairable. They aren’t going to retire any clanSpec mechs voluntarily.

As for the shrike? Nobody cares about it specifically. Falcons are going to run it because warriors will get to choose between running a shrike or running something like a gallant or malice. On the other side, the people who are going to have an episode when they see the falcons are going to have an episode at the paint scheme. Not at a specific Falcon mech.

Nobody's pearl-clutching or hand-wringing.  I asked because the Clans have on multiple occasions kicked a mech to the curb for less after deciding it was "tainted."  The Clans have a history of taking the idea of mech-cooties very seriously.

To be fair most of those are dead or unseen back in the Homeworlds…. Hell the Pulverizer is CURRENTLY in use with the Ravens and the Ghost Bears haven’t decided to Reave them out of existence.

The Republic was already making mechs with Clantech.  There may not be that much that requires conversion.

RAF was making IS mechs, with mostly IS equipment and weapons. But they could make some clanSpec. Good example would be the doloire. Which those parts will be helpful maintaining the existing omnis that Wolves and Falcons have. That said, I didn’t dig deep enough to see if the clanSpec parts were built on Terra, or built in prefecture X and shipped to Terra. I assumed the former.

I’m not aware of a fully clanSpec, down to the integral CASE, mech built on Terra. Though I might just not remember one. So there’s gaps in what can be produced.

Yeah, but the Bears also hold the Nova Cat in low regard and only assign it to warriors who are held in equally low regard because of the mech cooties.
