Kurita-LAM-lance of First Succession War
« on: 21 March 2020, 08:46:45 »
Hi,

my newest project are 4 (of the old blue-blister-FASA-) Land-Air-Mechs: A Phoenixhawk-LAM, 2 Stinger-LAM and a Wasp-LAM. I bought them in the 80ties or 90ties and now I want to build and paint them in colours of a typical Kurita-unit which used LAMs in the 1st Succession War.

I am already checking the books and the internet for hints which unit used them and which camo was placed.

I you have further information about the camo I would be very thankful.

I don't know that there'd be a lot of fictional references to LAMs in DCMS units. There's the League's Marik Guards, which was nearly a full regiment of LAMs at one point, but that's not what you're looking for, is it?

I'd do some research on Sarna on DCMS Military Commands. I figure you've got two sets of choices - regiments specialising in light designs & reconnaisance, with the 12th Galedon Rangers as an example, or high prestige units like the Sword of Light, who'd justify the expense of a lance of rare & expensive LAMs. Then check CamoSpecs to see what that unit uses.

Alternatively, hit CamoSpecs up front, browse DCMS units, and pick a camo scheme that appeals.

Of course, there is always the "uses appropriate camo" out. Even if the unit's parade scheme is garish, they'll usually be sensible enough to tone things down in the field. Unless they're Sword of Light, of course

Hope that helps some - I'm sure you'll get more suggestions.

Thank you for the info.

I used the old 3025 Technical Readout and also Sarna.net as sources.

The Phoenixhawk-LAM was used in highest numbers by House Marik. All manufacturing centres were destroyed in the First Succession War. In the TR a Phoenixhawk-LAM of the Sword of Light was described.

The Wasp-LAM was used in high numbers by the Draconis Combine in the 1st Succession War. All manufacturing centres were destroyed so the numbers of Wasp-LAMs were falling rapidly. Nevertheless 3017 a Davion raiding force was surprised by an attack from 15 DCMS-LAMs (most Wasp-LAMs), which were temporarily assigned to the Dieron regulars.

House Kurita was also the nation which used the highest numbers of Stinger-LAMs. Because House Kurita conquered and secured the Lexatech-manufacturing-centre on Irece the DCMS  got new produced Stinger_LAMs until the planet was lost in 3051 to the Nova cats. Because the Clans considered the LAMs as an insult to their codex the manufacturing centre was razed.
Kurita used high numbers of Stinger-LAMs in the battle on Proserpina in 2840 and in 3020 the DCMS assigned their existing LAMs to elite raider units.

I consider to paint the mechs in color of the Proserpina Hussars who were highly regarded at the beginning of the First Succession Wars.

The Arkab Legion are also an elite raiding unit of the DCMS which prefers high mobile units, but I dont think that the DCMS would assign these rare hightech-Mechs to the Azami.

It took some time, but now the draconis LAM-unit is complete.

The 4 models on the right side are from RalPartha, the others are from Kids Logic (under the official RoboTech-licence).

More pictures here (text is in german - sorry - I had no time to translate it).

a) Those look terriffic! You did them up really well.

b) Now I know the Kids Logic models size, I can add them to the list next time I feel like some LAM action. I know, not to everyone's taste, but now and again it's nice to have the option.

Sweet!

Whart color did you use? Base white undercoat + what seems like a wash or something?

I used base white undercoat (Citadel Corax White).

Next I mixed Citadel Contrast Colour "Aggaros Dunes) with colourless Contrast Colour medium (1 part Dunes + 2 parts Colourless) and painted the models. Contrast Colours run very effectlively in the lines of the skin of the models.

After that I made a dry-brush with light grey.

Then light blue for the cockpits, weapon steel for the weapons and engines and bone white for the nose-parts.
