Mel Brooks wins Lifetime Achievement Oscar
« on: 11 January 2024, 23:49:48 »

Mel Brooks recently received a lifetime achievement Oscar.

The acclaimed writer/director/producer won his only other Oscar for "The Producers" waaaaaay back in the bronze age, despite deserving more recognition.

Here's what he had to say recently at his acceptance of the above mentioned Lifetime Achievement Oscar:

"I miss it so much!  I never should have sold it.  I won't sell this one, I swear to God!"

I can only hope that we all get to finally see Spaceballs II.  If he doesn't finish it, I already forgive him.

Such is life.

I didn't realize he was still alive.

Oh, the ''I hear you will soon die'' Oscar. Small consolation for not getting one for Blazing Saddles.

About time, surprised he got it.
Seeing how most of his movies are too much for the younger generation now a days.

I'm still disappointed about History of the World part 2.  No charm at all.

I haven't seen it yet.  I actually forgot it existed until I went to IMDB to look at his more recent credits.  They had an promo on there for it and it looks like some actors were generally there for paycheck while others nailed the spirit of the first movie.  Glad to know he is alive and well though as the last thing I saw him in was a PSA with his son advocating safety and distance at the beginning of the COVID outbreak.

Exactly.  Mel Brooks movies are not for the easily offended.

Me too.  As pointed out by others, he won't be around for long.  At least Hollywood recognizes that they snubbed a living legend for far too long.
