How to handle Mech combat in a PbP game?

Hey all, I'm thinking of starting a Battletech PbP game to help scratch the old gaming itch, and I was wondering how I should handle the Mech combat. I've heard that MegaMek can and has been used, so I'm wondering what kind of options I have if I use it? This is especially important early on, as I intend to start the players with a single lance, and that may require them to find a way to schedule for a cooperative session. Any other ways of going about this?


1. Incoming fire has the right of way.
2. The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.
3. Always remember that your weapon was built by the lowest bidder.

How I've run it in the past is get general tactics from each player, then just set up a table, play it out myself, then post the results narratively.  As an example, post #70 here outlines the NPC battleplan: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=426.msg1463661#msg1463661
