extra light energy weapons(WIP/Original Tech base?)
« on: 19 July 2024, 10:05:43 »
Meta discalimer: please judge these based upon thier own merits and provide input on how they can be more balanced overall. AS these are for a Original Tech base mainly. BV and C-bill cost not included for the reason of they have yet to be finalized.

Lasers:
Extended Range:
Small:
Tons:0.25
Crits: 2
Heat: 5
Damage: 3
Range: 2/4/5

Medium:
Tons:0.5
Crits:2
Heat: 7
Damage: 5
Range: 4/8/12

Large:
Tons:3
Crits: 5
Heat: 14
Damage: 8
Range: 7/14/19

X-Pulse:
Small:
Tons:0.5
Crits: 2
Heat: 6
Damage: 4
Range: 2/4/5

Medium:
Tons:1
Crits:2
Heat: 8
Damage: 6
Range: 3/6/9

Large:
Tons:5
Crits: 5
Heat: 16
Damage: 9
Range: 5/10/15

PPCs:

ERPPC:
Tons:4.5
Crits: 5
Heat: 20
Damage: 10
Range: 7/14/23

Light PPC:
Tons:1.5
Crits: 4
Heat: 10
Damage: 5
Range: (3)6/12/18

PPC:
Tons:4.5
Crits: 5
Heat: 15
Damage: 10
Range: (3)6/12/18

Heavy PPC:
Tons:5
Crits: 6
Heat: 20
Damage: 15
Range: (3)6/12/18

As you can see they are supposed to be lighter, bulkier and higher heat energy weapons overall. though before anyone says 'just get clantech' or 'clantech makes these redundant' keep in mind these are not originally for either IS or clan tech bases. these are more for a Original tech base which the basic missile weapons and ballistics will be posted in due course.

Before I try to offer detailed feedback, does whoever is building these have Double heat sinks or an equivalent?

Edit: From a cursory glance the internal ballance seems tilted strongly towards the larger guns over the smaller ones. The Heavy PPC is by far the best PPC, either the ER Large Laser or the Large X-Pulse Laser would be the best of the lasers, but you might take Medium X-Pulse Lasers if you're just using them to cover the Heavy PPCs minimum range.

I can confirm that the people who are building these have something called compact double heatsinks, which weigh 1.5 tons but two can fit in the same area due to compactness. Otherwise they are functionally IS double heeatsinks.

.
So 4 heat dispated for 3 tons and 3 crits, but the 10 free engine heat sinks are still doubled, OK.

In that scenario the Heavy PPC is the best weapon on this list by a significant margin. It costs you 6.5 tons (the gun plus 1CDHS to cover movement heat) to get the first which makes taking a headcapper a near no brainer on any mech. Even if you're taking a second one it's "only" 20 tons of equipment, perfectly doable on a heavy mech. Either everything else needs a heavy buff or it needs to both be heavier and generate more heat.

All the other big guns(ERLL, LXPL, ERPPC, PPC) are fairly competitive with one another. The ER Large Laser actually gets you the most BV per ton, but it's close enough that they all feel like they're in the same techbase and you could see someone picking any one of them for different mechs.

The ERML and MXPL are both a bit less efficient than their larger cousins, but fairly competitive with eachother in isolation. In practice because the larger guns are more efficient most of the time you'd be taking the MXPL as you'll mainly be using them as a short range bracket to go with your main guns.

The Light PPC is a little less efficient than the short range guns, but it's competing with the big guns in roughly the same range. Maybe if you want a bug mech to have a long range punch and you literally don't have 3 tons for the ERLL you might take it, but it probably needs a buff if you don't want it to be something you take just to make bad mechs.

The ERSL and SXPL are both much weaker than anything else, but the small laser is almost always the worst laser anyway. A buff wouldn't go amiss but isn't vital.

In general your issue is that larger weapons are generating the same amount of extra heat, but are getting a bigger reduction in weight. Also the Heavy PPC being only half a ton heavier than the regular PPC is throwing it even further out of whack.
