A hard counter for fire support units. ECM and double AMS do very nasty things to your enemy's damage potential as you close, with the Ferro-Lam taking the resulting damage clusters down a couple more notches. Then you get amongst them and the whole lance's targeting is borked and you open up with clan med pulse. Send a couple at a heavy fire support lance and watch 'em dissolve.

5/8/0 is rather lackluster for a Clan Medium...

Especially IS fire support mediums can also do the same movement...

And so is the armament of 5 Medium Pulse Lasers...

For the same 5 Medium Pulse Laser, I can push my Medium to 7/11/7 movement...

5/8/0 is rather lackluster for a Clan Medium...
The design has armor like a clan heavy and it's running cheap with a standard fusion engine so I think it's fine.

The biggest issue I see is a lack of long range fires which means that against more maneuverable long range opponents it's cooked.

But it's too slow to assail the support fire units behind of the frontline and it gives too much time for the enemy to react before actually does its intended role.

It have decent range, for 4/8/12 isn't so short and being pulse laser means it also utilize its long range unlike most other weapons as well.

Rather it's better suited for guard dog duty for your own fire supports, for clans MPL is enough to deal with enemy lights and 5/8 with MPL isn't so easy to evade even for MP 7+ units. Else as the cheap line duty mech.

You really only need a jump of 10... dropping the engine a bit can yield some significant tonnage for something like a TarComp.

Looks good. Although the basic idea of MPL of OP is also good too - since it's clans grade pulse laser it does have good range by default.

I'd have liked to kept the standard engine, however to do so and keep a simlar to damage profile to the OP, it was necessary to bump up to an XL.  While the thought popped into my mind about sticking fancier items on to push the jump envelope I decided to stick to IJJ.

I'm really not concerned about incoming missles because odds are there will be easier targets to hit than me unless someone is playing with SG and even then they have to dedicate a modest BV for their benefit.  I like FL armor, but feel it's not as useful as hardened armor.  Which while it weighs more and has the downside or causing a more difficult PSR soaks more damage before facing that downside.  Having an anti infantry weaon is nice, but I don't feel infantry is going to be a threat to my machine unless I stand in the same hex with them.  If I did that I made a massive mistake.  So I pitched the flamer. Anyhow here is what I came up with:

Short of the head it will take a hit from a HGR to any location and keep moving.  It will take a few shots from LPLs and still be moving around.  Accidently find that hornet's nest of Hetzers or a Demolisher packing precision ammo?  You may still live.

It would be more optimized, yes.  But I wasn't necessarily aiming for it to be fully optimized.  I just saw what the OP put together and wanted to stick close to it while turning it into a flying Hammerhead wannabe :grin:.

This to me is more of a harasser / raider - it can go after fire support units but it lacks the firepower to really get someone’s attention like the OP design does.  It will show up in a hurry though that that’s certainly helpful. 

Which design is better depends a lot on what sort of fire support you’re going after.  The OP design will quickly destroy, or rend mer unable to provide support a lot of the ‘classic’ support mechs line archers, trebuchets or riflemen which lack either the short ranged weapons, or the armor or both to fend off an attacker at short range.  Against more flexible fire support mechs like a crusader, dervish or stalker however getting that close can be really dangerous and your faster large laser armed design is a safer choice.
