I am thinking that a better pilot should be able to juggle/bypass/over ride coolant safety mechanisms thereby push the machine to run hotter safer better than a green pilot.

I thought that there were rules to allow for this but I can't find them (in any edition) but is that just a case of wishful thinking?

Hey Ho I found an answer :D

Page 104 of Tactical Operations gives rules for how to deal with heat above 30 points.

Quote
To find the base target number, find the appropriate Avoid Number under the Heat Data and apply a –5.

but i will use a -4 modifier to avoid making it too easy for the pilots
