Cobra Transport VTOL vs Cobra VTOL Transport
« on: 19 March 2023, 16:25:45 »
In the process of migrating things to 49.12, I came across this in the forcegenerator XML for 2571:

Code: [Select]
      <chassis name='Cobra Transport VTOL' unitType='VTOL'>
<availability>SL:2+,RWR:2:2765</availability>
<model name='(Command)'>
<roles>support</roles>
<availability>SL:2+,RWR:2:2765</availability>
</model>
<model name='(MASH)'>
<roles>support</roles>
<availability>SL:2+,RWR:2:2765</availability>
</model>
<model name='(Original)'>
<availability>SL:2+,RWR:6:2765</availability>
</model>
<model name='(Standard)'>
<roles>cargo</roles>
<availability>SL:5+,RWR:2:2765</availability>
</model>
</chassis>
<chassis name='Cobra VTOL Transport' unitType='VTOL'>
<availability>TH:2,SL:2</availability>
<model name='(Fusion)'>
<roles>cargo</roles>
<availability>General:6</availability>
</model>
<model name='(Standard)'>
<roles>cargo</roles>
<availability>General:4</availability>
</model>
</chassis>

Are these two separate vehicles, or just a transposition of a name?

Ah.  And it looks like there are two distinct entries in MML, one for each name (Cobra Transport VTOL, Cobra VTOL Transport).  Going to have to watch that as I'm working through.

Yeah, they are significantly different, despite the very similar names. Cobra Transport VTOL and its variants are built using the Combat Vehicle rules, while the Cobra VTOL Transport and its fusion variant are built using the Support Vehicle rules. The latter was also introduced centuries earlier.

primitive combat vehicles are designed under the support vehicle rules rather than having a discreet set of primitive vehicle construction rules

Updating the forcegenerator XML files comes up with a number of such things, some valid some not.  For example, both "Sprite" and "Sprite Ultraheavy ProtoMech", with only the latter as the unit with data (doesn't help that there's also "Svartalfa" and "Svartalfa Ultra ProtoMech" but this time it's the former chassis name that is correct).  Same with many of the space station types e.g. Factory and Habitat.
