(Answered) Transporting battle armor clarification
« on: 28 August 2016, 11:54:55 »
Hello everyone! First time post- just started getting into battletech after Gencon this year.

Anyway, I had a bit of a rules conundrum i need clarifying. It's in regards to transporting battle armor via Infantry Transport Bays on large vehicles such as Dropships.

According to the rules i've found, i quote:
Quote
(...)Each Bay/Compartment has a capacity of 28 troopers except for Mechanized Infantry (which carries 5 troopers) and Battle Armor (which carries 1). Foot Infantry Bays/Compartments weigh 5/3 tons; Jump Infantry Bays/Compartments weigh 6/4 tons; Motorized Infantry Bays/Compartments weigh 7/6 tons; Mechanized Infantry Bays/Compartments weigh 8/5 tons; Battle Armor Bays/Compartments weigh 2/1 tons. All Infantry Bays/Compartments can be combined into a single, unified infantry bay slot, regardless of tonnage or number of troopers, when used on combat or support vehicles
(TechManual, pp. 239-240)

Am I right in saying this could also be stated as
"An Infantry bay can carry 1 Platoon of Foot Infantry; A single SQUAD of 5 of mechanized infantry (which if i understand is a single model); or A single SUIT of Battle Armor (Requiring 4 bays to make a single squad, which is one model on the table)"

Perhaps i'm just... misunderstanding the rules regarding it? If I have it right great, if not- How many infantry bays do i need to move a unit of Inner Sphere Standard Battle Armor?

Sorry for the possibly newbalicious question guys!

DropShips (or other units doing long term transit/maintenance for BA) use battle armor bays that are a flat two tons per suit, so eight tons for the Inner Sphere baseline of four suits per squad.  The table on page 239 has an explicit listing for this squad size in the Corrected Third Printing PDF.
