Charger CGR-X2B
« on: 19 December 2017, 02:02:27 »
A 3075 era highly experimental version of the Charger CGR-1A1 battlemech for thoughts, opinions, and constructive input.

==========
The Charger II is a heavily modified experimental model of the Charger CGR-1A1 that was the result of efforts by Schwarze-Ritter Metalwerks to improve on the highly maligned 'mech. Given a cutting-edge makeover and featuring an unusual mix of technology, the Charger II is built around a custom seventy-five ton endo-steel chassis designed to look like it's Assault-weight forebear. The Charger II’s appearance was painstakingly maintained in a deliberate effort draw less attention to the project and thwart would-be observers, and had the added benefit of surprising and confusing enemies on the battlefield.

The reduced mass and new endo-steel chassis allowed the Charger II’s engineers to replace it's massive LTV 400 engine with a newer and much lighter PlasmaStar 375-Light series engine while still maintaining the speed and maneuverability of it's progenitor. The Charger II’s original 10 tons of Durallex Heavy armor was replaced by 12 tons of Krupp 205 Light Ferro-Fibrous, to improve it's overall protection enough to better withstand incoming fire.

The ridiculous old popgun array of light laser weaponry was discarded, and the Charger II’s engineers installed a Magna Flarestar Snub-Nose PPC fitted with a PPC Capacitor, a Flametech Inferno Plasma Rifle with two tons of ammunition, and a pair of Magna Mk VI Extended-Range Medium Lasers. To further improve the Charger II’s combat effectiveness and increase accuracy all of the new weapon systems were tied into an advanced targeting computer. Additionally, the Charger II’s engineers decided to take advantage of the high heat generated by its new and improved arsenal and installed Cosby ThermoFlex triple-strength myomers. Now when running hot the Charger II would become a faster, deadlier close-combat fighter as well.

Not all Chargers are bad . The CGR-SA5 is too bad . I like all Chargers as spare parts for my Hatamoto mechs that use the same chassis .
