Overview
In light of the loss of the York-class Anna Rosse over Barcella to Clan Smoke Jaguar’s Jaguar‘s Rage, a Texas-class Battleship, in 3058. The Nova Cat Khans’ decided that another vessel was required to honour Clan’s founder, although they had a new escort destroyer on the design boards this type of vessel hardly seemed worthy of the Anna Rosse name. Negotiating in secret with Clans Snow Raven and Diamond Shark, two of the Cat’s closest allies the Nova Cats were able to acquire three ancient Avatar-class Cruisers from one of the oldest Brian Caches in the Clan Homeworlds.
Bringing the vessels back to the Nova Cat’s new home in the Nova Cat’s Den, the former-Tortuga Dominions, the Nova Cats analysed the designs and decided that the vessels were unsuited to modern combat however instead of trading the vessels away or mothballing them the Nova Cats decided to create a whole new class of WarShip. Docking them one at a time with their recently captured Faslane-class Yardship, Rosslare. The first Anna Rosse-class Battle-cruiser was launched in late 3059 with the first vessel named Severn Lervoux after the Khan that led the Nova Cat Clan to its new home.
Capabilities
When the Nova Cats acquired the three Avatars they knew that a cruiser would not be enough to constitute a command ship, they already had nine Aegis-class Heavy Cruisers and a Black Lion-class Battle-cruiser in their navy. The Khans demanded a class that would surpass the current vessels available, the Anna Rosse was what the scientists came up with and Khan Santin West immediately classed the vessel as a Battle-cruiser and the vessel that would lead the Nova Cats into their future.
Designed to be able to combat modern WarShips as well as fighters but retain the features of the original Avatar-class that made it popular the Anna Rosse-class uses the same engines and basic structure. The Heat Sinks were upgraded to Double efficiency and a Hyper Pulse Generator was added to bring it up to modern Clan standards and allow them to act as command ships. For protection the Nova Cats also decided to upgrade the Avatar’s standard armour to the more expensive Lamellor Ferro-Carbide version giving the new class better protection for less tonnage, despite this the Anna Rosse-class still carries over one thousand tons of armour.
The Avatar’s Cargo Bays were also heavily modified the original two bays of twelve fighters were upgraded to five bays of ten fighters giving the vessel an increase of twenty-six fighters over the original and giving the ship fifty fighters in total allowing the vessel to act as a carrier, this feature is similar to the Liberator-class a class seen within other Clans that is also based on the Avatar. The corridors have all been modified and widened to allow the fifty battle armoured marine Elementals to move and fight inside the vessel making the vessel extremely difficult to capture, the Elemental Marines may also assault enemy WarShips by using the ten small craft also available to the WarShip.
When it came to weapons the Nova Cats decided to go standardised in each bay but with devastating firepower much like the original Avatar design. Unlike the Avatar or the Liberator-classes the Anna Rosse-class is designed to combat fighters as well as WarShips the Avatar mixes sixteen Heavy Naval-class Particle Projection Cannons with sixteen Naval-class Autocannons of various calibre, including four of the largest type in the broadsides, twenty-two Naval Lasers of various sizes supplement this firepower and three AR-10 Missile Launchers, two forward one aft, these missile launchers can bring devastating long range capital missile sniping firepower on a target from any angle. The AR-10 Missiles are especially effective because all launchers are supplied with fifty of each type of capital missile available which is far more than most modern WarShips carry.
For Conventional means the Nova Cats followed the same principle as the Capital weapons with a standard mix of forty Extended-Range Medium Lasers spread around the hull in every arc, these lasers were originally perfected by the Nova Cats and now a standard medium-range/back-up weapon throughout the Clans. Alongside these lasers are thirty of Clan Coyote’s brand-new nine-tube Advanced Tactical Missile Launchers, each supplied plenty of ammo allowing gunners to fully utilise the missiles available to these launchers. Along each side of the Battle-cruiser are eight LB 10-X Autocannons, four per side, each autocannon is supplied with five tons of ammo, and each can fire into the vessels broadside arcs aerospace fighters are warned to stay out of the broadside arcs of this vessel at all costs due to the deadly effect LB-class autocannons have when using cluster munitions. In 3070 these LB-class Autocannons that had served the Star League and the Clans faithfully for centuries were supplemented by the newly developed Clan Hell’s Horses weapon the Heavy (Hyper) Assault Gauss Rifle these weapons had proven to be more effective at targeting aerospace fighters than standard LB-class Autocannons and had better effective range the combination of these weapons has proved deadly in combat against massed fighters. The Nova Cats upgraded all their Anna Rosse-class vessels to this configuration.
Additionally the Anna Rosse still boasts six DropShip-Collars, like the original, and two one hundred-and-forty-five metre gravity decks, a slight increase over the Avatar’s one hundred-and-eighty-five and a forty-five metre diameter decks. Also each of the OmniFighter/Aerospace Fighter pilots is given second-class passenger quarters, individual pilots have decorated the quarters to their own taste and because of this once a pilot is assigned to the Anna Rosse-class they are rarely reassigned this is an unusual arrangement for a Clan WarShip and the individual decoration is typically small things in the quarters as the pilots know life as a Clan pilot is never long.
The only thing that suffers under all this upgrading is the Cargo Bay Capacity, the original Avatar could boast almost sixty-one thousand tons of cargo the Anna Rosse can only boast forty-four thousand tons of cargo just over a half of the original, the Nova Cats do not see this as a problem however as it is more than many newer vessels and they have an extensive fleet that can keep the supply lines open by force if necessary to keep the Anna Rosse-class fully combat capable.
Notable Ships and Crew
Severn Lervoux, Clan Nova Cat
The first vessel of this class, the Severn Lervoux escorted the Varnay-class Battleship Thunderchild into the Federated Suns. Since its launching and the success of its maiden voyage the Severn Lervoux has been the flagship of the entire Nova Cat fleet replacing the Congress-class Frigate True Vision which is still struggling to regain full battle readiness following its battle with the Jaguar‘s Rage. One major feature of the Severn Lervoux is the near permanent assigning of two Titan-class DropShips and two-to-three Carrier-class DropShips this gives the Severn Lervoux over one hundred-and-forty Omni and Aerospace Fighters available.
Deployment
Since the launch of the Severn Lervoux the Nova Cat’s have plans to launch two further vessels and an upgrade package is also in the works.
The Development of the Anna Rosse-class increases the chances of the Avatar-class Cruiser’s service continuing, a vessel that originally served Commanding General Alexandr Kerensky’s Exodus Fleet and the SLDF Army for centuries before that.
