Conventional Confusion!
« on: 21 March 2022, 23:27:35 »
So I was looking at the conventional infantry from TRO 3085, and noticed that some of them have primary and secondary weapons. But upon checking the infantry section of TW, I found that there were no guidelines as to how secondary weapons are meant to be used; just that infantry attack once. So, using Lyran heavy infantry from TRO 3085 as an example -- am I able to fire the 20 auto-rifles and 8 plasma rifles at the same time? Do I roll for them separately? Or can I only choose to fire one or the other? Please help remedy this perplexity!

They're calculated into their attack value and range already. In BT scale play, they have only one "weapon" essentially.
Think this technically happens with standard infantry too, with Machine Gun Platoons having few MGs and rifles otherwise.

The tro 3085 infantry using the infantry construction rules gets real messy.  Everything gets added up and averaged, but the number of guns may slow you down or change how far you shoot.  The total warfare generic infantry is backwards compatible to the construction rules, but of all the unit types I find infantry the most confusing with the worst rules.

Empyrus is correct. In your example, the damage values listed are for all 20 auto-rifles and all 8 plasma rifles firing at the same target at once.

Okay, so using the same unit as an example: if I rolled it so 7 troops connected with a target, resulting in a total of 6 maximum damage, how do I apply the 8 plasma rifles against a target that tracks heat? Do I just declare that I want the 6 damage to be added as heat, too?

Yes, with the clarification that any such declarations must be made before you roll to hit.

Got it. Thanks for helping me make sense of this, everyone. First time using conventional infantry, I'm embarrassed to admit...

The rules for Infantry Platoon construction are in Tech Manual.

The basic infantry from Total Warfare can be found in TRO3085.

I think they are essentially the ROTS platoons?  Maybe some SLDF platoons?

But stat wise, they match the Total Warfare platoons for Rifle, Laser, MG, Flamer, SRM, etc etc.
