  • And I think it's gonna be a long, long time...
So, by now, many of you have undoubtedly seen the Plushytech Atlas in ELH colors.  Perhaps you've even acquired it for yourself.  If not, though, here's a picture from Catalyst's site:

Adorable.

Having just acquired one on Sunday from one of my FLGS, I've put way too much thought into it.

First off, clearly it's marked with Eridani Light Horse insignia, from the RCT's insignia on the left shoulder to the 71st Light Horse Regiment's insignia on the right shoulder.  Knowing it's with the 71st actually helps narrow down who the 'Mech belongs to: in 3025, the only Atlas in the 71st Light Horse belonged to Colonel William Erik Petersen, the regimental commander.

OK, so now we have a who, but we don't have a "what".  And we need a "what", because the Plushytech Atlas is missing something the AS7-D Atlas normally has: an LRM launcher.  The autocannon is lovingly depicted, as are the arm weapons, what are presumably the rear lasers, and the SRM-6 rack.  Even the coolant hookup on the torso is depicted.  The LRM rack, however, is not.

This, though, presents us with an opportunity to develop a WYSIWYG version of the Atlas.  Given there was also a jumping Atlas mini Ironwind Metals released as a LE mini, we can even relate it to that.

So, first up, take an AS7-RS.  Remove the LRM-15 rack, increase the large lasers to PPCs, bump the SRM rack back up to an SRM-6, and install two jump jets center torso.  It's a straightforward refit that closely resembles other custom versions in the canon, and while it loses the punch of the AC/20 "big iron" on its hip, the AC/10 is still a solid contender, is useful at point-blank range when punching, and keeps heat under control that a third PPC, even with another 7 heat sinks, might not.

For the other Plushytech Atlas, the obvious answer would be to drop the jump jets in favor of bumping the main gun back up to an AC/20, and reinstalling the rear lasers, but I'll leave that for someone else to do. :)

I can't believe the ELH wouldn't install the third Jump Jet... :P

Setting aside the difficulty in finding another 2 tons for one jump jet, I was just treating the two ML apertures on the back of the plushy as part of the jump jets.

Arguably, I could drop the PPCs for large lasers, tack on a third jump jet, and swap in an AC/20 again, but then you can't fire past 15 hexes.

I really like the toy atlas if only international shipping wasn't a nightmare (cost)

As for the design I like the mismatched jets and 2 PPC as your ranged firepower is quite cool mixed in with the AC and SRMs

Drop the AC/10 for a third PPC and you could install the 3rd Jump Jet and another 5 HS... ;)

Can't: doesn't match the artwork.  Arm guns are smaller than the Big Iron on his hip.  I'd go Blazer, but it's a single barrel.

I'd skip the JJs for an AC/20 and rear lasers myself. Jump 2 just isn't worth it... :undecided:

I'd also cheat a bit and give it a "death glare" - drop one SHS for a head-mounted ML.

Otherwise, how about making it an oversized Crocket?

When I asked Plog to draw my Civil War Special Hunchback, he tried to sell me on a single barrel Blazer Cannon.

Dave listen Sabelkatten ("Dave listen"?  What doth my autocorrect wroth? -Gio), at that point I’m tempted to go back to 20 SHS and bump the auto canon back up to an AC/20.  It feels weird though because the Crockett packs a second SRM-6 rack, but then there’s a considerable difference in heat sinks.

Daryk, that is an option.  And at the risk of seeming heretical, I’m ambivalence towards Plog’s art.  Some I like, but a lot of it the combination of heavy lines, odd shading, and angularity seems…off, or something.  I suspect some of it is comparing him unfavorably to Doug Chaffee, which probably isn’t fair to Plog.

In terms of a single-barrel blazer cannon…I dunno.  I actually really like the dual-barrel look.  Besides, do you see an Eridani colonel using a blazer on his prized Atlas?

Of course the beauty of this is it’s all up to interpretation, and there’s a second Davion Atlas plushie  that we may find we’re simultaneously statting out.

I vastly prefer the double-barreled Blazer Cannon myself.  I just wanted to point out that there are other opinions.

I could totally see an Eridani Colonel with one too.  This is the unit that made the Thud jump! ;D

Speaking of which... I now feel compelled to go design an Eridani T-Bolt with a Blazer... I'll link it here once it's up... :)

I'm thinking since you were starting w/ the RS  (AC10+2LL) that you should have left the LL as is.

Swap the AC for a PPC giving you 3 beamers & the 6-Rack for crits in close.

That way you can load up on more HS & the 3rd JJ for a truly Alpha-Baby feel.

You can even afford a 2nd ton of ammo for Inferno flavoring.

What about starting with a standard Atlas-D, remove the arm mounted ML, replace with LL (+8 tons), add in 3 jump jets (+6 tons), remove the LRM20 & Ammo (-11 tons). downgrade the rear ML to SL (-1 ton). You could either remove 2 HS or 2 ton of armour, or 1/1 HS/Armour. That way it's capable of hitting out to a decent 15 hex range, whilst still being able to close as fast as possible to bring the AC20 & SRM6 into play.
