So, by now, many of you have undoubtedly seen the
Plushytech Atlas in ELH colors. Perhaps you've even acquired it for yourself. If not, though, here's a picture from Catalyst's site:
Adorable.
Having just acquired one on Sunday from one of my FLGS, I've put way too much thought into it.
First off, clearly it's marked with Eridani Light Horse insignia, from the RCT's insignia on the left shoulder to the 71st Light Horse Regiment's insignia on the right shoulder. Knowing it's with the 71st actually helps narrow down who the 'Mech belongs to: in 3025, the only Atlas in the 71st Light Horse belonged to Colonel William Erik Petersen, the regimental commander.
OK, so now we have a who, but we don't have a "what". And we need a "what", because the Plushytech Atlas is missing something the AS7-D Atlas normally has: an LRM launcher. The autocannon is lovingly depicted, as are the arm weapons, what are presumably the rear lasers, and the SRM-6 rack. Even the coolant hookup on the torso is depicted. The LRM rack, however, is not.
This, though, presents us with an opportunity to develop a WYSIWYG version of the Atlas. Given there was also a jumping Atlas mini Ironwind Metals released as a LE mini, we can even relate it to that.
So, first up, take an AS7-RS. Remove the LRM-15 rack, increase the large lasers to PPCs, bump the SRM rack back up to an SRM-6, and install two jump jets center torso. It's a straightforward refit that closely resembles other custom versions in the canon, and while it loses the punch of the AC/20 "big iron" on its hip, the AC/10 is still a solid contender, is useful at point-blank range when punching, and keeps heat under control that a third PPC, even with another 7 heat sinks, might not.
For the other Plushytech Atlas, the obvious answer would be to drop the jump jets in favor of bumping the main gun back up to an AC/20, and reinstalling the rear lasers, but I'll leave that for someone else to do. :)
