Well, the Europa Clipper made it off Earth. Now we only need to wait a little over a half decade to see something from it....

  • Go ahead, try and run.
Should be worth the wait. New Horizons was fun to wait for.

Its too bad the SLS wasn't compatible to be used for the Clipper, it would've had been faster, but the vibration issues made a no go unfortunately.

Even without the SRBs shaking everything apart, SLS never made any sense for outer planetary missions.  SLS launch costs are approaching $2B per, while savings on operations for a flagship mission like Europa Orbiter are measured in the tens of millions per year.  And SLS only shaved a few years off the trip to Europa.  NASA would have spent over a billion and a half more on the launch to save maybe a hundred million or so in spacecraft ops.  Dumb, dumb, dumb…

I have to admit I have to agree with NASA's spending issues. Frankly I just blame it on government politics interfering and exaggerating costs because of too much Temptation by commercial interests in overdoing it specially once it had no competition.

Hopefully with the rise of more commercial interest in finding more financial gain in at least low orbit it will cause more availability for Rockets to go to space. I do believe the reusability for the boosters would bring the cost down online, outside of SpaceX there doesn't seem to be anyone else trying to have a fully reusable system except for maybe Chinese based companies.

This.  I was so glad to see it lift off.

Good one, Rebs! :D

Thanks!  Glad to have this forum to laugh and joke on ::changes to movie trailer narration voice:: in a world that has become dangerously serious.

Now to just forget about the recently launched Jupiter probes so time doesn't dilate in anticipation.

Hopefully, some of the space programs don't get cut as budget been short changing and not adjusting for inflation.

Interesting one coming up is a semi-joint mission between India, ESA and the US going to Venus.   Venus Orbiter Mission (India), DAVINCI (US), and EnVision (ESA)
Two of them are going do mapping, while the US probe going descend into atmosphere taking air samples and pictures it's going down.

I'd like a more detailed map of Venus and perhaps, if possible, a lander-probe that can survive there.  I just want to know if there is granite located on its surface.

And I don't care about the pyramids there.
