Kell Hounds - Updated 7/22
« on: 19 July 2024, 22:50:47 »
Through collecting the lance packs, I have a bunch of mechs that just don't fit in with my two factions. I have a very specific unit composition for my Crescent Hawks, and my second faction is the Crucis Lancers of FedCom. The Lancers ranks were swelling to enormous proportions and I have a bunch of mechs like Panthers, Dragons, etc so I needed a third unit. So... what unit has ties to both FedCom AND the Crescent Hawks? That's right...the Kell Hounds.

Of course, I still have to detail and clear coat...mostly looking for feedback on the red as this was my first go at the color.

They did have a lot of captured ones at the Silver Eagle battle IIRC for the Jump Jets.

The yellow (orange?) highlighting is kind of distracting, I fear.

Would you consider giving it a light layer of red shade/ink, or something to lower the highlight tone?

Do the colors look darker in-person?

I agree with the others; has too much of a yellowish/orange ish tone to it. Had I not read the post and just looked at the picture, I’d never have thought “red” or “Kell Hounds”. Interested to see how you progress, though.

I'm wondering the same thing.

The pick is far more "brown/orange & yellow/orange" but that could be a trick of the light & the table color.

It is more red in person, but even then it comes off more orangey. I am using the citadel app to select colors and thought the "Fiery Red" looked cool, but it's just too orange I think.

You already made it red before I could suggest Wazdakka Red or something a bit darker for the Kell Hounds.

Good iterating, sir!  That is one of the tricky parts of the hobby.  Next week I'll post a star of mechs that I probably should have iterated more on....but didn't in my rush to finish before the Mercs KS shipped.

Sadly, My shipment hasn't shipped, and I'm done with the Star. Oh well, good work!

Thank you! That was the second time I have done it. It's a real pain, but really done make a good looking mini

lightly repainted. The highlight layers were thin enough that returning it to it's base color was relatively easy. The same base and wash were used for each version, the layers were the deviation.

Wondered the same.
I was thinking that a really thin couple of washes of "red" was really all it would need to fade out the "orange".

Agreed...could have been an easy fix with a wash of red, but I wanted to make sure they looked uniform across the unit and the only way to do that was return it to the base color and apply the new layer paint.
