Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone!
I am new to BattleTech and have absolutely loved playing alpha strike. Me and some friends have been using Jeff's Battletech Tools and it has been extremely useful. I know that the battletech community is generally open to printing your own custom minis and other such things.
However as someone who is trying to get more into programming and making projects I thought it would be fun to make something similar to jeff's battletech tools but with the addition map and tokens (kind of like a dnd beyond/roll20 type system) so that I can play with some of my friends who live in different states.
I however am unsure if I would need to acquire a license to do this since it would be a free tool on a website and would not have the battletech rules listed on the site. It would just have a database of mechs (similar to
www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/') and a token system for maps to keep track of where your mechs would be. I attempted to do some research but came away more confused than before so I thought maybe I could ask on here. (I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this, I saw someone had a similar question
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=59881.0 and it was posted under this sub-section of the site so I assumed this would be correct.)
Thank you in advance!
Edit: I am also aware that no one replying to this is giving official legal advise! I just was wondering if there were some resources or statements by the company that maybe I had missed that could give insight to this!
