And now someone needs to make a mini of a Bane with a LRM carrier mounted on each arm.  :D

It has been done - I found this one after a bit of googling, but some 10 years or so ago, this was the most common Kraken 3 mod around. Ok, yeah, those are SRM carriers, but close enough, eh?

I hope the Kraken-XR is a candidate for a TRO Prototype-like treatment in the future. Me? I'd like to see something *really* low-key, such as a 4x LB AC/10-X refit. Hey, if they gave the Annihilator UACs instead of LB/Xs, they may as well go the opposite route for the Bane.

Either that, or 14x Proto AC/2s.... Hellbie would like that!

Edit: pagebreak, so I included the quote.

Bane 3, great Mech for hunting Hellstars.  Puts out tons of damage quickly and decent rolls make for a fair number of TACs and even head hits to spice things up for the Hellstar pilot.  I've used the 1 a few times, although rarely with full double taps, and done with it(until some jerk piloting a Huntsman A scored a golden BB with its LB-2 and critted my gyro...) ;)

The Bane 3 is definitely the golden child of the lot.

And one of the few times you will say "I ran into this LRM boat at point blank range going around a corner and he turned me into Swiss cheese"- because with that many missile launchers, it critseeks like a super-SRM launcher.

I have seen grown men weep when a Bane loaded Thunder rounds and fired the full boat for a few turns into a formation. They couldn't even breach the armor before it'd saturated about 20 hexes worth of approach with 15-point minefields and then walked away around a corner, mission accomplished...only to start firing indirect barrages at anything stuck in the minefields.

That thing killed an assault lance singlehandedly. So good.

I just threw the numbers into SSW and found that the result can toss 5.5 ERLLs downrange every turn for an average of 55 damage.  It is not bad, but given the existence of the faster Hellstar or my custom Thunder Hawk IIC with 5 headcappers it is not particularly impressive.

Maby so, but consider the time period, and the fact that the Hellstar and ur custom Thunder Hawk IIC are many years away. THEN you see that the SuperNova is VARY impressive indeed for its time period, as well as even into the mid to late jihad era.

While the Hellstar is most certainly a later-period design according to its fluff, my Thunder Hawk IIC could be built at any time considering it only carries Gauss Rifles and ERPPCs so the most likely time of construction would be somewhere around when the other IICs were built.  As for the Supernova, I am fully aware that it is a nice machine because I use it regularly however it is hardly an optimal design.

True, but I believe we r going for cannon designs. Cuz there are MANY designs that people could optimize to kick so much more *** then the canon versions do.

Plog did some drawings of the Kraken that are currently sitting in the Lords of the Battlefield gallery. I wasn't wild about the original art, but he makes it look good. I think the main problem with the design is the goofy legs; how does it keep from falling backwards? Still, the upper-half of the Kraken is one of my favorite assault 'Mechs.

Would LOVE an official Bane 3 mini based on Plog's work

It's pretty much academical if it does... If you get an early ammo crit chances are that so many bins will cook off that the pilot gets fried anyway! #P

The Bane 3 is one of those designs that's just hated by unit quartermasters, particularly quartermasters working for merc units.

Bane 3 is a must have.  Shoot missiles... Check.  Waddle forward... Check.

Some one tries to get close, no minimum, OUCH!

Two of these, a Scylla, a Guillotine IIC, an Stone Rhino can hold anything much longer than they should be able to.

I once had an Executioner jump in front of one about 9 hexes out (test bot though it was).  Several non-Hellbie MM dice rolls later... nothing left to salvage, almost every missile hit, I couldn't help laughing hysterically.

Welp, time to resurrect this thread with regards to the three new variants derived from Recognition Guide 17.

First up is the 5, derived from the XR.  It mounts four Clan RAC 2s, two per arm, with an ER Large Laser and a pair of LRM 10s as backup weaponry.  And also an ECM suite, which is a bit of a rarity in Rec Guide designs.

Second is the 6, which is the WYSWYG variant that mimics the standard.  But it does so by using ten Protomech AC 2s.  Saves weight, but at the expense of range and the ability to double-tap. It does, however, have the ability to use specialty munitions, and with six tons of ammo there's ample incentive to do so.  It also uses the weight savings for using the smaller guns to replace the original's four machine guns with four ER Medium lasers and hooks all the weaponry up to a targeting computer.

Finally, there's the 7.  And it's a complete monster.  It keeps the quad ER mediums from the 6.  It's also got a large laser, though unlike the 5 it uses a Large Pulse Laser instead of an ER model.  It doesn't use autocannons of any kind.  It uses a pair of HAG 40s, one in each arm, fed by 12 tons of ammo.  This mech is going to cause pain.

I really like the 7, and it even comes to the RasDom in the ilClan era, but 3.75k BV is a Little too steep for what is just another 100ton mech.

It's the sixth highest BV of any Battlemech, and the others include two variants of the Skinwalker (which didn't make it to full production), the Turkina Z (which was only used by the Society), and the Bounty Hunter's custom Marauder II (which is unique).  The only other mech more expensive than it is the Gladiator G, which has the Gladiator's patented Really Stupid Armor Placement.

Saves weight, but at the expense of range and the ability to safely double-tap.

A minor correction, but something that should be kept in mind if TacOps is allowed at your table and your opponent is suitably unhinged. >:D

Lol my love for this Mech stretches all the way back to the card game days when I would often pair it with the reactor breach/ammo explosion mission card
