Lucky dog! I wanted to brew root beer, but my GF heard about my grandfather's family-unapproved brewery, the massive explosion that destroyed beer, equipment, and the entire family's laundry, as well as the massive cleanup necessitated by said detonation from my mom. Hell will freeze over....

I'm not sure. The man who told me everything was tight lipped on the subject. My guess is he bottled too soon. The pressure built and overpowered his glass bottles. It doesn't explain how his gear was toasted, but maybe Grandma saw the devastation in her laundry room and became somewhat peeved.... >:D Ahhh. Imagination, my old friend!

No matter, it doesn't change my situation.

1) I'm a highly experienced biochemist.
2) Brewing is simple.
3) I've made beer before. (including a Microbiology class project in my undergrad days)

I raised all these points to no avail. She is Gibraltar on this subject. Maybe I should ask to set up a distillery instead....

yeah i am kinda bummed every now and again that i gave away my still...er chemistry set.

What you need to do is start talking about opening a small microbrew bar and looking into all that entails. Pretty sure she will relent at that point.
