The wife and I heard "Puny god" clearly as well.  :)
We hear that there are tumults and riots in Rome, and that voices are raised concerning the army and the quality of our soldiers. Make haste to reassure us that you love and support us as we love and support you, for if we find that we have left our bones to bleach in these sands in vain, then beware the fury of the legions.

What groups are those?

Got a link?
I came across articles related to both while googling something or other.  If I can recreate the thought train that lead to the articles/comments, I'll post them.  Offhand, I'd guess its some adoption advocacy group, or adoptees group for the former, and people who just like to complain about things rather than any particular women's (or other organized) group for the latter.

Yep. The word seems to have spread through Britishese-speaking sectors pretty well, but hasn't taken root in 'Murika (outside of demographics that watch BBC America.)

Rewatched it in 3D today. I think 2D works just fine, because the 3D effects are not as spectacular as those in Transformers or Avatar.

Caught the "PUNY GOD" line very clearly, as the Hulk uses a strong tone.

I assumed that Tony was making up LMDs to avoid talking to Coulson, there were no other indications the tech exists in the Avengers U.  I assumed it was an Easter Egg for the fans of Marvel/SHIELD.

My take of it was that Stark knew what LMDs were and the line implied that Stark Industries manufactures the things.

I'm disappointed though: I stayed till the end because i missed the 2nd post-credits scene, but apparently that is only shown Stateside. The "international version" of the film doesn't have that scene :(

I have a question: I'm not familiar with the Chitauri as they appear in the comics, but they gave me the impression that they're aliens and not robots. So are they supposed to drop dead like battle droids right after the portal closed instead of forming pockets of resistances for the Avengers to mop up?

Finally saw it. Hiddleton is an amazing actor. His talk with Fury was great, but what clinched it for me was the "Puny God" scene. After that beatdown, I honestly believed from his expression that the ONLY thing going through Loki's head was "...ow." ;D

And yes, the Helicarrier made me squee. {>{>

Mobile Structure, 2-3 flight decks, Amphibious landing mods, crap armor...

Oh, and amazingly high CF, to allow for Hulk not snapping it in half with his first punch, to say nothing of the Hulk/Thor fight. :D

I'm no comic book guru, and neither is my roommate.  I know of the Helicarrier (used to watch the Spider-Man cartoon in the 90s) but his comment was something of the effect of "The world's ultimate army spent how much money to get a flying base just so it can get shot down instead of building a more reliable land base that has some decent protection?"

Just how easy is it supposed to be to take out the carrier anyway?

I think Whedon's drawn inspiration for the Chitauri from both the Ultimate comics and the 2006 Ultimate Avengers animated film. I noticed some comparisons between both sources and that of the Chitauri in the live-action film.

But a large part of what we saw of the aliens in the film, I think, was purely crafted for the The Avengers.

I don't know about its active defenses (never saw any used in the movie), but the turbines keeping it aloft, at least, were vulnerable to a thumb-sized bit of plastique.  Even allowing for movie explosions, it wasn't as much as you might think.  'Course, once you damage a high-speed turbine, things go to heck in an handbasket pretty quickly...

I noticed something else, the make up they used on him, gave his face a slightly pale, slightly golden, cast.  And his Loki performance reminded me of Brent Spiner's Lore.  If they were to do a new TNG movie (they aren't but if they were) there is a solution to the Brent is too old to play a character that doesn't age problem.

Far too easy, since in the comic books, getting shot down by a hostile force seems to be the carrier's primary role.

I haven't read too many comics but yeah that helicarrier seems to get shot down fairly regularly and they always rebuild the dang thing without seeming to do much about it getting shot down all the time.

Not that anyone seems to have any difficulty finding or breaking into any hidden secure facility in the Marvelverse.

Just remember: A thousand years from now SHIELD will still be around, albeit under a slightly different name. Though at that point, nobody will remember exactly what SAFE stands for...

A question about the Hulk movies: What led to Edward Norton being replaced with Mark Ruffalo? Was it a budget issue?

A question about the Hulk movies: What led to Edward Norton being replaced with Mark Ruffalo? Was it a budget issue?

From what I've seen, Marvel was still angry at Norton over the 'creative differences' they had for the Incredible Hulk movie.

I love Norton as an actor, but what I've read about him (mostly Wikipedia, granted) is that he tends to try and take the reigns- most notably American History X where he (allegedly) rewrote the script to give himself more screen time

I think Norton came onto the Hulk sequel with rights to help work on the script (isn't he a big fan of the Hulk?)

This article here seems to say that in the end, Marvel went back on their agreement, threw out Norton's ideas and when he fussed about it, they threw him out of the Avengers.

Don't say 'no' to Marvel I guess.

There was a vague hint it was a budgetary thing - that's also why there were all those hints in IM2 that they didn't want Stark for the Avengers, but did want Iron Man.  There were 11th hours talks of replacing RDJ with a cheaper actor.  Which would have defeated the whole purpose of the franchise.
But overall, Feige found Norton to difficult to work with.

Marvel usually gets the scores for their films right, though. The Capt, IM and Avengers scores have this rousing effect on me, when they play i just sit up and hum along to it as the crowning moment of awesome unfolds

Pretty much.

During the 90's, in fact, it was almost a monthly thing to have the Helicarrier either seriously damaged or brought to near ruin by "this" or "that" threat in one book or another.

There was also speculation about the potential for clashing egos between Downey Jr. and Norton on set.

From what I recall of the back and forth between film producers, the cast, and such... there were real concerns about whether the two would be able to work together on the same project.

The Squee worthy moment in the movie for me was the Thor v Cpt America fight.

Brief, yet loud

During my second watching of the movie, cinema speakers had a static  bang type noise right as that scene happened, and it was LOUD!

Point of bafflement: the set design in Avengers was so meticulous. Everything had its place, it wasn't random pickings from a movie studio warehouse thrown together.

Except the rocket engine in the lab where Loki was summoned.

In an underground high energy physics lab for a tesseract there was a lone rocket engine sitting nozzle down on a maintenance cart. There was no spacecraft or rocket-appropriate support hardware to be seen.

Just a random prop tossed in?

Given the whole "Let's get power out of the uberCube" thread in the story I expected that was somebody's side project.

"Hey Jim, I want to see if we can adapt a rocket engine to work with this thing. Can you send me down a mockup of an engine so I can see how we can fit some updates on it?"
Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat.

It's not completely clear.  Norton said there were creative differences, Marvel said it was money.  What is known is that Norton is notoriously difficult to work with.  It wouldn't be a stretch to suggest he was going to have problems being just another member of an ensemble rather than a primary figure.
