That's one of the golden oldies i feel could do with a remake.

My seven year old niece has been around a lot lately.  It's like a movie cliche, the little girl with a sense of humor and endless energy gets the crotchety, jaded uncle to lighten up.

She got me to sit down and watch the Lego movie.

It's hard to stop singing "everything is AWESOME!"

Well, considering it is a remake of a (classic) remake of a (classic) classic...  I loved Robert Vaughn playing exactly the same character.  :)

It is a remake of The Magnificent Seven, where Vaughn played an on the run gunslinger with a price on his head.  The Magnificent Seven,  was a remake of Kurosawa's classic Seven Samurai.

I remember watching Battle Beyond the Stars at a drive-in as a kid.

Back to back watched 'Ran' and 'Heaven and Earth' because someone was joining our L5R game and I wanted to give them a primer on what is expected of them.     Mostly because the Shogun mini-series or one of the Taiga dramas are too long for someone to sit through in on go.

If it was based off the magnificent 7 but in space imo that is not making it a remake.  But an adaptation.

Battle Beyond the Stars was enjoyable.  It could definitely get a good reboot but I can't call it a golden oldie

Just watched Son of Batman and currently watching Batman Assault on Arkham.  These new animated movies especially with Kevin Conroy reprising the role of Batman in Assault on Arkham really makes it great.

Watching Marvel's Iron Man and Capt America Heroes United animated movie.  Not impressed with it sadly, mainly because of the animation.

Fare enough.  Of the 70-80s sci fi films that came out, which (if any) WOULD you like to see get a reboot/remake?

I would not mind seeing a better take on the movie 'Dark Star', there were some interesting concepts in that movie honestly.   I also would not mind seeing a better produced and tighter scripted version of 'The Final Countdown'.    Perhaps even another take on 'The Black Hole'... maybe just for the offhand chance someone might actually build another model of the USS Cygnus.   That ship is always going to be one of the most interesting put up on screen.

"A Knights Tale"

I didn't know what to make of this film when I first saw it but after seeing it more than once I think I get the crazy humor and I enjoy it. The combination of modern sports elements with medieval culture was blended quite well imo and the parts with Williams father were just awesome and felt heartfelt.

Was scanning CNN's entertainment section and saw this..
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/08/showbiz/movies/female-ghostbusters-paul-feig/index.html
Ghostbusters the reboot is a go, but with an all female lead cast.  Melinda Mccarthy is slated to be one of the gals.

Yeah, I heard that.

While I don't have a problem with female comedians, the way this has been promoted makes me worried that it's going to be full of cheap girly jokes with no actual effort or intelligence behind them.

The writer of Dark Star, Dan O'Bannon, felt the same way.  He wanted a better made film, with an alien that looked real, rather than a spray painted beach ball.  So he made some changes and came up with a new script: Alien.

Heh.

Watching Trick R' Treat.  One of the best horror films of recent years to really understand Halloween.  Amazing cast, with Dylan Baker completely owning his role, but it also has great acting by Brian Cox and Anna Paquin.

Plus with 2 of the 3 gals being of the 'heavy set' kind, i can't really see them doing as much of the 'leg work' the original team had.

Yeah I had heard a rumor about a female cast for a new Ghostbusters but I don't know...

Just saw Hunger Games Catching Fire on Netflix tonight and while I can't say that I am completely excited about either the caste or the fictional setting itself I do feel like it is and was a decent film with some very fine scenes in it.

The complexity of trying to be one way to friends, another way in front of the camera and another way when fighting for your life would seem tasking for anyone much less young people and I think they pulled that off very well. I did feel like there was some good character growth compared to the first film and I liked that a lot.

Again, I wouldn't say I was blown away by the film but I can't ignore all the good parts either. Looking forward to the next part in the trilogy.

Went and watched "The Judge" tonight with the wife; absolutely excellent movie. The cast and acting were all superb. While there are certainly some humorous moments, there is also a lot of heavy emotional stuff.

"Homefront" starring Jason Statham. Decent enough, though formulaic. About what I would expect from a screenplay by Sly Stallone.

Just got done watching an oldy but decent movie, Leap of Faith with Liam Neeson and Steve Martin.
Though i have seen it several times, my mother couldn't remember seeing it before, and loved it!

Yup.  He was the town sheriff.  He was also in another oldie, Suspect with Cher and Dennis quaid.  The strange part was his roll was a NON speaking one (he played a deaf mute).

Amongst the movies that I watched the most, it's just behind the Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare.

"Cloud Atlas" - the back and forth induced some mild whiplash, but certainly made it a challenge to follow. The actors/actresses involved all did superbly. Some of the makeup was fantastic and I didn't catch all of the appearances until the credits pointed them out.
