1st Regulan Hussars lance
« on: 16 May 2014, 17:01:13 »
So it's been a while since i posted. Life and all. And lots of other projects in the middle.  But I'm back with my last IS lance. Just 5 more clan mechs to go and I'll have completed my goal for my battletech collection.

The goal was to have 4 IS lances of equal BV so I could mix and match and not have to worry about points. The second part of that was to figure out four DIFFERENT units that could plausibly fight the clans as well as each other or be allied.

What I ended up with is Wolf's Dragoons Epsilon Regiment, Eridani Light Horse 151'st, Ryuken-Roku, and last of all 1st Regulan Hussars. At some point I'll put together a shot of all the lances together, but for now here's the Hussars:

Very very well done. The paint jobs are superb, and the reposing is gorgeous!

Astounding work!  Really wonderful shading, and I love the reposing, especially on the Warhammer.   O0

Thanks! They were fun to paint, but I'm glad they are done :)

Eh... sure... lets see.

Started out with the old scorched brown from gw mixed with orange. Switched to steel legion drab plus orange and gradually increased the amount of orange in the mix. Late stages added a touch of white. For final highlights I used tau light ochre and white. Then a few touches of pure white for extreme highlights.

The yellow started with straight balor brown for shade, highlighted with bleached bone and a touch of yellow.

I'm not normally a huge fan of Unseen (so sue me, I got started with MechAssault), but hot damn those are some sexy 'Mechs.

If I may ask, how did you outline the panels while not making the entire mech that dark?

@john: not sure I follow. do you mean the black in the recesses between panels?

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I pulled everything out and put together a shot of all the lances together. Not the best shot and forgive the phtoshop sky I threw in, but now you can see all 4 IS lances together. :)

Awesome work mate  O0

What a great collection of classic Mechs (and they can bring the hurt too).

Yep, the black recess lines between the panels.  It's clean, distinct, and I'm wondering how you did it so well.

THhnks,

Ah that. No trick really. Just black paint and a fine pointed brush like a 10/0. I do the black line before the edge highlights so any mistakes usually get covered by that. You have to have lots of patience though. I think lining one of the marauders took about 2 hours because of all the random panels.

I think that are the best painted Regulans i've seen so far. I love them.  O0
And for the others ... the Archer and T-Bolt are looking interesting. Do you have Close ups of them ?

@wotan: I'm a bit busy ATM, but I'll see if  I get a good pic of the Archer. There should be one of the thunderbolt floating around already.

The one thing BTech related that makes me cry is when people paint precious Unseen poorly, so seeing so many astoundingly painted Unseen is a definite joy (with a healthy dose of jealousy).

More unseen greatness please!

How 'bout a 6th Marik Militia scheme, maybe an Archer, Centurion, Ostroc and Trebuchet?

Thanks for taking the time to share this with us!
