(Answered) Damage and spike destruction
« on: 25 May 2014, 15:33:15 »
A clarification, please. Am I correct in thinking that while spikes (TO p. 291) only absorb incoming damage from physical attacks, the roll to see whether the spikes in a location are destroyed is still made whenever that location takes damage from any source, or does that likewise only apply to physical attacks in particular?

As the rule is worded ("The Attacker must also roll 2D6 each time a location with spikes suffers damage.", not "...suffers damage from a physical attack."), it suggests the former -- which then of course provides incoming weapon attacks with an excellent chance of eliminating most or all spikes a 'Mech may mount long before physical attacks from either side ever become a concern.

It will be errataed to read "all damage from any source."

Okay, that works. Well...not to the spike-carrying designs' advantage, exactly, but not all arena weapons can translate equally well to the actual battlefield. (And I'll keep the one homebrew one I have around for the style points anyway. ;))
