MW:AoD WORLDWIDE EVENT for the month of August!!
« on: 24 July 2014, 12:01:59 »
Throughout the month of August, play games of MW:AoD anywhere, anyplace, using the "Sandstorm" scenario from Champions Pack 1, and have the results count in a massive fan-vote for the world of Simpson's Desert!!

STEP 1:  Join the Facebook group "Mechwarrior Clix Players (Age of Destruction)" - https://www.facebook.com/groups/615467028503773/

STEP 2:  Go to the Events page, and create a new event for your MW meet-up.  We don't care if it's just you and your brother/father/cousin playing a game at home; list it as an event on the Facebook page (during the month of August) and your results will count!

STEP 3:  Download the "Sandstorm" scenario from the Files section of the Facebook group page.  Post any questions about the rules before you play your event.

STEP 4:  After the event, post on the Facebook page and tell us how many votes were won for each of the two participating factions: House Marik or House Steiner.

That's it!  Shortly after the end of August, I'll post the final results.

Let's see how many games of MW our community can arrange in a single month! :)

"Face it - MW:DA had, for its run, massively greater commercial success than BattleTech's ever had. Over two million click-base minis - want to guess where the number of BT minis comes in? I'd guess on the order of a few percent of that. While BT has survived for 30 years, we've never had the same number of players at any point. The pity was that unlike BT, MW:DA ended up being run by businessmen, not game fanatics." - Worktroll

I'll definitely be able to get at least a game or two in by then, too bad youre only limiting to those two factions.  I could contribute if there was a Davion/Ghost Bear/Highlander/Republic/Bannson/Liao side.

Those two factions never see any play time here....  It's cool that you are putting forth this effort though!  Although I do not have a facebook account. (see 4th amendment violations by the government etc.)  Please keep us updated!

you can play whatever faction you like, or a rainbow army even. In fact, there are no House Marik pieces among the official wizkids pieces. All you would have been able to play for that faction is gunslingers with a base recruit cost.

O yeah, that's right.  I totally got that swapped with Kurita there for a second...  Ok, well when I get the chance to play a game here in the next week or so I'll post the results here.  It'll probably be a Davion vs Republic/highlander match.

@Jackpot4 - I figured a few people would not be on Facebook.  Just post the game location, time you played, and how many votes for each faction, and I'll include your results.

Steiner and Marik were chosen from the fiction - the two forces actually fought over a planet called Simpson's Desert in 3137-39.

Glad to have you participate!

Here is the scenario, for those not on Facebook:

MechWarrior Clix Players (Age of Destruction) Worldwide Event
August 2014

1. Event Title - “Sandstorm”
Beginning in November 3137, House Steiner forces fought a vicious back-and-forth battle against the reforming House Marik for control of Simpson’s Desert, an important border world near regional capital Tamarind.  With heavy reinforcements arriving in January 3139, will the Steiner forces finally be able to push back the Tamarind Regulars and their mercenaries?

2. Objective
Each player aims to defeat the other.

3. Battleforce Size/Composition
Two-player game; 600-point build total; four orders per turn. Determine the first player per the MechWarrior: Age of Destruction rules.
At the beginning of each game, players must declare if they are fighting for House Steiner or for House Marik.  They need not play Steiner or Marik pieces in their armies – they simply have to declare which side in the conflict their army is fighting for.

4. Rules Sets
MechWarrior: Age of Destruction, Firepower, Annihilation, Domination, Vanguard, Wolf Strike, and the various Battleforce Set rules.

5. Time Limit
50 minutes.

6. Preparing the Battlefield
Only blocking and hindering terrain may be placed in the terrain pool.  Alternately, you may use the Desert Oasis map from MechWarrior: Champions Volume 1 Action Pack, and not place any terrain on the battlefield.  No planetary conditions or mission cards may be played.

7. Special Rules
At the start of each of their command stages, the active player rolls two six-sided dice and adds them together.  The result is the maximum range value for all units on the battlefield with a maximum range greater than the result.  If the result is equal to or less than the minimum range for any damage value on a unit, then ranged combat attacks may not be made with that damage value.  Artillery attacks may be made with a -4 attack value modifier; the line of fire to all artillery markers is blocked.

8. Victory Conditions
Use MechWarrior: Age of Destruction victory conditions.

9. Special “Worldwide Event” Rules:
Players are encouraged to schedule as many events as possible.  Events must be scheduled during the month of August, but otherwise have no other restrictions.  Cross the hallway and play against your brother.  Email all the former MW players in your area and get them to a game store for a massive tournament.  Meet up with your cousin’s sister’s best friend for a game at the local YMCA – we don’t care.  As long as it is scheduled on the Facebook page (or this forum page), it’ll count.

Each win in a single game for either side in the conflict (Steiner or Marik) will count towards the total results.  After the end of the month, the tally will be counted and a winning faction proclaimed.  What does the winning faction earn?  Pride, glory, and bragging rights – until the next Worldwide Event anyway!  What does the losing faction earn?  Shame, humiliation, and a burning desire to avenge themselves in the next Worldwide Event!

We have 3 meet-ups planned in AL, at least one each in CA, MI, and Great Britain and Spain

Great, added to the count.  Current standings:  House Marik - 5, House Steiner - 2

Thanks!

Do we have any updates or future challenges on the way?

How has the campaign gone between Marik and Steiner?

The final tally was Marik - 8 wins, Steiner - 5 wins.  So House Marik maintains control over the world of Simpson's Desert!

Of the 13 recorded games, 11 were played in Alabama.

Here is our next scenario for the month of September:

1. Event Title – “Crash Course”
On the planet of Zosma, a coalition of Republic Remnant forces seeks to set up a supply depot to support efforts outside the Fortress.  The growing coalition under Julian Davion, seeking to help him claim the Federated Suns throne, has arrived at the same planet with the same goal.  But transportation assets for both sides are limited; which forces will arrive on-site and wage war first?

2. Objective
Each player aims to defeat the other.

3. Battleforce Size/Composition
Two-player game; 900-point build total; five orders per turn.

Each player must build three separate battleforces, each one being 900 points and representing a different faction.  Each battleforce must come from units with the same faction symbol or be allied via a house alliance. No mercenary contract cards may be played.  Gunslinger pilots may be recruited as normal to use in Mechs with a faction symbol, but Mech units may not be recruited into a faction via pilot card (but see the Special Rules section below for an exception).  A faction pride card may be played in each battleforce at the usual cost (30 points in a 900-point build).

Before the start of the event, each player will number their three armies as Army 1, Army 2, and Army 3.  The Battlemaster will then roll a die.  A result of 1-2 indicates that Army 1 will be used; 3-4 indicates Army 2 will be used; 5-6 indicates that Army 3 will be used.  The indicated army will be used in all three rounds; the two non-chosen armies will not be used during this scenario.

Determine the first player per the MechWarrior: Age of Destruction rules.  This is a Level 2 event.

4. Time Limit
A total of 3 rounds will be played; 50 minutes per round.

5. Preparing the Battlefield
Set up the terrain and determine the first player per the MechWarrior: Age of Destruction rules. For this scenario, each player may bring a hand of up to 4 cards.  At least one must be a planetary condition card, and at least one must be a mission card.  Players will still play only one card per round; one card in each player’s hand is an “extra” that will not be used, but gives the players more options in each round of the scenario.

6. Special Rules
If a Gunslinger pilot card has a recruit cost of 0 to any faction, then that pilot card may be played on its preferred BattleMech and included in an army of the indicated faction.  This special rule overrides the “no recruited Mechs” rule in the Battleforce rules above.

For example:  “One-Eyed” Jack Farrell (GS-064) recruits to the Bannson’s Raiders faction for 0 points.  Farrell may be played on his preferred Mech, the “Hammerfall” Atlas (WS 105), and included in a force that is otherwise faction-pure for Bannson’s Raiders.

7. Victory Conditions
Use MechWarrior: Age of Destruction victory conditions.

So are we choosing between the Remnant and Federated Suns?  Or is this kind of a free for all?
