Adding Players to an Against the Bots Battle
« on: 22 October 2014, 03:54:40 »
Once I have a battle ready to go on Megamek from my against the bot campaign, can I have other players join in to take part in the battle?

I can't have them sign in and transfer my units to them.

That's also possibly by using the /traitor command, which can be used to transfer units from one player to another.

You can also change ownership of units in the lobby.  I just don't know how well MHQ will handle that at the end...

You can turn off victory and then at the end traitor the units back to the original owner and /victory. I've never personally tried it but it might work. Other than that, all I can think is stitching the units back together using a text editor after the game and then manually resolving it in MekHQ.

Personally I would kick the bot once play starts and replace it, as stated above. Not sure how it will handle additional enemies for salvage/kill tracking if you switch owners or sides.
If the enemy is in range most likely so are you.

Actually I was looking to add the players onto my team. I will give it a shot and see what happens.

If that is the case then I would go the switch owner route in the game lobby. Don't know if it will again mess with kill tracking upon mission completion. Unless they are using your assigned allies then it shouldn't matter.

This is how I used to run my campaign, I'd change owner in the lobby to give units to each of my players, then at the end I'd stitch together the XML files manually.  I thought that I made an RFE to Ralgith to better support this, so I wouldn't have to stitch together the XMLs, but I can't remember what came of out; I haven't been using MHQ for a long time.

I know it has been planned for a long while, I just don't think it ever got finalized. I'd like to see better handling of it as well for some of my campaigns.

The way I do one campaign is to assign a scenario for each player and then just resolve them at the end (one via the last auto-save and the other manually, after editing the salvage file so they don't get salvage twice but recover any of their downed units). It works but is still annoying.

Gave it a shot and things worked fine. Everything was updated with no problems.

Which route did you end up taking?

I too, and probably future people with the same question, would like to know exactly what you did to get it to work.

I had them log into the game and then at the end of the game, and everything ran normally from there.

Sorry forgot to add that I changed ownership for select mechs to those who logged in and went from there.

Of course I am still getting the hang of AtB, so I may have forgotten some of the post game stuff. But the experience at least for the kills was counted if not for participation.
