Fate of the CJF Gauntlet (Liberator class)
« on: 13 February 2015, 05:50:11 »
The Liberator-class CJF Gauntlet was reportedly "ripped apart" by a Steel Viper force at Lum in 3070, according to The Wars of Reaving p. 47.
However, it is listed as one ship in the joint Lyran/Jade Falcon attack against the WoB at Coventry in 3074 in the BattleCorps scenario Fire in the Dark.
Anyone here who can clear this up?

The scenario is in error. The Gauntlet died at Lum.

Thanks for the clarification.

Can you tell us what CJF/LA capital ships carried out the attack after all?
(Because there's another problematic vessel in the lineup: The scenario also mentions an Aegis-class CJF Frost Talon that I presume was meant to be the Frost Falcon; I raised that question here in Ask the Writers.)

Dunno. Only CJF ship I ever placed at Coventry was the Red Talon (Aegis) which died there.

Actually, the Red Talon survives into 3145. Says Sarna, citing A Bonfire of Worlds and FM:3145. It ws the ship that almost had the honor of wiping out the Kell Hounds in 3142.

The scenario lists among the attackers:
- LAS Fylgia
- CJF Red Talon (Aegis)
- CJF Frost Talon (Aegis) - doesn't exist, may possibly be the Frost Falcon
- CJF Gauntlet (Liberator) - had been destroyed at Lum four years prior

BlakeDocs reports that the Gold Talon was there (p66). In BlakeDocs (p38), Galen Cox also reports two WarShips were lost above Coventry to nuclear attacks but doesn't make clear which two.  Of course, they could have confused the Gold Talon with the Red Talon.  As far as the disposition of the Red Talon, plenty of confusion there.  FR The Clans states that the Red Talon was at Coventry but isn't clear on its disposition.  It isn't listed as an active WarShip in FM3085, but by FM3145 it is back on the active roster.   ???

There is slightly less confusion with Clan Wolf's Victoria Ward.  In Wars of Reaving, it is mentioned by name as a Coyote WarShip although it was not one of the two WarShips Vlad Ward traded to the Coyotes.   ???

Detect evil first, smite second and ask questions later.

The Red Talon in the Dark Age is not the same Red Talon that was lost at Coventry in the Jihad.

The "Chaos Sailor" was renamed to "Red Talon" after the Jihad. (Swift Bait was renamed to Jade Tornado).

Ooh shiny! Lots of good information here, keep it coming.

So,

Confirmed:
- LAS Fylgia was there, and survived (it would die elsewhere later).
- Red Talon (Aegis) was at Coventry in 3074, and was destroyed by WoB; later appearances are the ex-Chaos Sailor

- Gauntlet (Liberator) was not at Coventry, despite being named in the scenario. This is a confirmed misreporting as it was destroyed in 3070. The Jade Falcons had no other Liberator, so if there was a fourth ship it must have been of another class. It could conceivably have been another Aegis.

- One other WarShip (besides the Red Talon) was destroyed at Coventry.

Unclear:
- Frost Talon (Aegis) is a joker ship. It may have been there, or it may not exist and be a misnomer for another ship.
- Gold Talon (Aegis) was reportedly there, though it is not listed in the scenario.

Øystein, should I move this to "Ask the Writers"?
