Aside from the Bounty Hunter, all the MWO Legend Heroes have been non-stock despite their TT counterparts being stock. Tempest will be just like MWO Legend Killer, the fluff announcement will likely touch on the rumors of Kell either having supernatural abilities or Star League LosTech to explain why he could not be targeted and there will be a huge thread on the general forums here debating whether this proves that the ability was just ECM all along.

Pretty easy to solve that. MWO is non-canon and we have a canon source (HTP: Mallory's World) that gives the stats for Morgan's Archer. It was a completely stock 2R. People can debate it all the want but they'd be wrong.  :D

Some of MWO is canon. I recall the lore story for the Bounty Hunter was written by R Bills and declared canon I think.

Tempest is fine. You can make it work just as Morgan's stock 2R worked. All those other hard points and the ECM point are just potential it had.

My Tempest is going to potentially have LRM15s and 5 Medium Lasers and a Tag for example.

MWO writing can indeed be canon, see Legend Killer e.g., and I would not mind an ECM retcon of some sort at all...  O:-)
Guardian ECM on Morgan's Archer would explain a bit. It would not explain everything, of course, but ECM being LosTech during the 4th SW and Morgan having evidently access to a SL cache, an ECM equipped Archer is not absurd.

I would actually have preferred it if Morgan found a working ECM unit when they found the blackbox's and it explained him more than the Phantom Mech ability. Same with Yoringa, or Patrick Kell.

But that isn't the way the story is written.

The 5W with 9 Missile hard points is a chance for the kind of insane looks I like. I really wonder what it would do with 9 Streak SRM2 slots filled, lots of ammo, and a big standard engine. With the cooldown mod and range mod, light mechs would hate you.

the "phantom mech was ECM!" stance does not address why Patrick Kell, driving Ardan Sortek's Victor, pulled off Phantom mech during the rescue of the Silver Eagle.. While the victor was left with the Hounds for repairs, they'd have never have installed a special totally secret lostech device onto a mech they're gonna ship out to a davion general.

further patrick, after the battle, says that he finally understands Morgan.. which means that he had no clue how Morgan pulled it off either, yet he managed to do it himself anyway.

it also presupposses that Yorinaga Kurita liedwhen he said he learned how to do phantom mech via meditation and philosophical musing.. and it means that Yorinaga, who is super-loyal to the Coordinator, didn't turn over a priceless bit of lostech that could mean victory for the combine if studied..

basically it just doesn't work as a tech based effect.

How do philosophical musings result in hiding a 70ton war machine from advanced sensory when in plain sight?

Most likely the Phantom-Mech is simply an early concept for the BTU that has been dropped and never seen again, because the idea of supernatural abilities does not fit into the BTU. There is no magic in the BTU, which is why I favour a technical explanation - with all its apparent flaws.

And in game I definitely prefer ECM to an unlockable skill - we would have thousands of Morgan Kells if it were an unlockable skill. So think PGI did the right thing and chose ECM.

i don't see why PGI would put phantom 'mech syndrome in the game at all, even if they kind of did it with radar derp. the whole "make your enemies miss you" ends up being a kind of unfair tool once you realize it's screwing over more players than it benefits.

So now that the Archer is next in line, I have a question. What does that symbol mean?:

I think it is the special hero item since the pages of the Rifleman and Warhammer showed the silhouette of the Solaris medal (a reference to Noton's victories) and the Black Widow spider (N. Kerensky's heritage, unit, nick name etc.). But what does this hero item represent? I am not a Morgan Kell expert...

A reference to the 'Phantom Mech' ability perhaps.

Could be a nod to the Phantom Mech ability.

This is your explanation right here.

At one point it was decided that Magic was not something Battletech was going to have.

It would be easier for everyone is the fans just accept that what things were considered acceptable in the early days later changed. There is no real in universe way to justify it, so just let it be and don't stress over it to much.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCOJVlVDPq-/ - Instragram preview vid of Archer firing - two piece upper and lower Bombardier/Reseen Archer style missile hatches... and a disturbingly large amount of dynamic gray space if you only mount one large LRM launcher per torso :/

Looks pretty good. Kind of regretting not buying an Archer pack (not gonna do that without the extra bonuses). But only kind of, as i don't really play MWO nowadays.

The dynamic space is a bit annoying for sure though.

EDIT gotta say, i really hate how PGI wants the Archer to have asymmetric missile hardpoints. 2 in one side torso, 1 in the other. Why? Why not 2-2 or 1-1?
I don't mind asymmetry in asymmetric 'Mechs like the Warhammer but the Archer...

Wish I had done it earlier for extra crap...but I dropped $20.00 for the standard pack.

We'll see what happens depending if anything is announced tonight.

I remember that the original Vindicator art showed missile doors too.

I should hope so, the BT Vulture's upper torso is nearly identical to the Archer's.  It just put the cockpit back on top like it's Macross origin.

Considering that was the direction since the old Virtual Pod days, it makes sense.

... and the countdown should start soon, so that we see more of this Mech.  :)

It is interesting, though not surprising, how well the unseens translated into 3D. It's probably because they were designed to be seen from multiple angles in the animes, unlike some other Mechs of the BTU.
