D&D: Shadows Over Mystara was the only arcade machine in the Specialists' Mess on the base I was stationed at worth a damn, especially since there were severe restrictions on portable electronics at the time I was on the force.

I fed way more cash into the damn thing than I'd care to admit.

If I recall it was a four player side-scrolling beat-em up. I seem to recall the characters that could be played were a dwarf, elf, a warrior and a cleric or mage.

Smells like a version of Gauntlet.

Of which I happen to own.

The Midwest Arcade PS2 disk, and ever PS version out there on videodisk.

Ah memories...

There was also a thief.

Sort of, but it was a side-scrolling beat'm up like Final Fight.  The game had a lot of diversity: each character had wildly different abilities and there were many branching options that gave it massive replayability.  Your characters had default equipment but you could find alternate weapons and armor that could give you different powers, some of which were very hard to find and very powerful.

I remember being told that the four man wail of anguish from myself and three other Sergeants when we stuffed up the Staff of Wizardry final strike silenced the entire bar.

Not that we noticed.  ::)

The desperate claw back to a picture finish was amazing but took all our concentration. I don't think we'll ever be able to do something like that ever again.

Never got the Staff of Wizardry, but I do remember spending several dollars repeatedly killing myself with the Cursed Sword in order to turn it into the Legendary Sword.

Tower of Doom was the first game. Shadows over Mystara was the seque though I never actually played ToD (on grounds of never actually encountering a machine).

I saw that Assassin's Creed: Origins is on sale on the Playstation Store this week.  Having heard many good things about it from numerous friends, I decided to go head and try it out.  I'm really liking it so far.

Spoiler Warning For Pretty Much The Entire Kiseki Series So Far:
Eiyuu Densetsu: Sen no Kiseki (The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV) Famitsu Magazine Additional Cast Announcement

*Cue Screaming Fangasm.*

Sure, the pic quality is potato level, but I've seen enough. They sure as hell weren't kidding when they said this would have the largest playable cast of all the Kiseki (Trails) games so far.

I'm just glad they're back.

Today I made ~50 km trip to town and back. Since I have got composite cable for family's Mega Drive and I have confirmed it works, I made a visit to video game store and brought back with me Altered Beast and Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun. Is the D&D game like one of the Gold Box series? Should I crack cartridge open and change a battery?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights errant, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Don't believe so, if by Gold Box you mean the wonderful SSI games like Pool of Radiance, and the rest.

Been playing a good slew of NES games on the NES Classic mini which it arrived in the morning, such as Punch Out, Metroid, Final Fantasy 1, the classic Donkey Kong arcade game, Gradius, and Super Mario Bros

Aaaaaaaaaand, on PC Steam, I played the Spiritual Successor to Descent called Overload days ago.  It's awesome so far.

Yesterday I was going to test those games and find out does D&D game need battery replacement. So I turned CRT TV on, I heard some cracking, and then TV went off and didn't go on again. And I just got composite cables for it too! xp

I still have some CRT monitors, like 19" Samsung Syncmaster 959NF. Do you happen to know of adapter or the like for composite (console) and VGA (monitor) cables?

CRT displays have been recommended for old consoles, because those round the pixels. Though I guess that applies only to PAL and NTSC quality displays and not for the ones that go up to 1600*1200 pixels.

I bought From the Depths earlier this week on Steam.  However, it seems to be learning curve thing trying to get use to.  It's sort of sandbox creative game of sorts, my computer being the old box it is (2009) with GeForce 8600 Nvidia 8600 GT can barely handle it and the original Void Destroyer games i bought.  xp

Recently via steam...

PREY - Exceptional so far. Decidedly influenced by System Shock, Deus Ex, Half-Life, BioShock, and Portal.

Spintires: Mud*Runner - loved the original. The followup is nicely improved. This is my go-to stress free sim. Although, I do wish that I could haul some old Russian military gear to the front-line or something. Amp-up the engagement just a bit. Logs are fun though, and challenging.

Stellaris- pretty good, though what bugs me is that I cant seem to find the tech tree so I dont know what comes next after I research something, and the combat is real time, which pretty much means no tactics are involved, just whoever has more ships and better tech wins.
