With that bit in mind, I am surprised we haven't seen the rebels flying around with more old Clone Wars stuff.  It might be hard to get your hands on a Venator, but maybe there are some mothballed Acclimators and Munificents floating around.

I thought it was an interesting argument for adding a single line of dialogue like that would have made the TLJ more coherent.

This is what I like - not just statements that there's something wrong with the story, and what that might be, but suggestions on how to fix it.

This would fix a lot of it, but there were a couple other small jump-gaps that could have used a line, or a 3-5 second shot added in for context.

Yeah, one line would have done a lot like it said.  I kinda figured Holdo had a motivation like that on my own, so I didnt have that issue with the plot.  My problems with it stem from the pacing and the Casino scene.

But, however well it would have fixed the plot, it would not satisfy the screaming online trolls who are determined to convince everyone this movie ruined the franchise and we are wrong to like it at all.

Legends. No longer canon.
have some canon examples: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Berch_Teller%27s_warship (although this guy had a bit more in common with Saw Guerra in terms of motivation and tactics)
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aggressive_ReConnaissance-170_starfighter#History
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Phoenix_Home
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nu-class_attack_shuttle
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Phantom_II
and of course, the one that have been around since the start,
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Y-wing_starfighter

as we saw with Reklam station, the Empire seems to have been putting in some real effort to destroy the Clone Wars era stuff, both separatist and republic. but they obviously missed a fair bit, and the black market is clearly going strong under the empire. but most of what we've seen so far is 'late empire' stuff.. 15-20+ years after it was founded. the Rebellion would have been using clonewars gear more in the earlier days when even the Empire was still using Republic vintage gear. the may not have been fighting all that much early on, but their stuff would still suffer a lot of attrition, especially as the Empire moved away from ARC-170's and V-wings towards TIE fighters and the supplies of spare parts started to thin out.

Shame they went through all the effort to canonize the Z-95 for The Clone Wars, then completely ignored it in Rebels.

But at least the Z-95 is canon now!

I should also add that Rebels is a very small segment of the Rebellion, so the fact that the Z-95 doesn't show up isn't a big deal IMHO. One can presume it is being used by other Rebel factions elsewhere, & relegated to worldbuilding at the moment...

Quite possible. it was a somewhat surprising thing when Phoenix squadron was revealed and they were flying A-Wings rather than the X-Wings everyone would have expected, and it did help put forth the notion that there wasn't just ONE Rebel group all using the same X-Wings and such.

I AM still a bit miffed we didn't get to see Dantooine base or see where Dodonna got the X-Wings he had, though.

Anyone else hear the rumor that they might only be releasing this on blue-ray, or digital download, not on dvd??

I didn't hear that rumor but I had to replace a dying Blu-ray/DVD player this past weekend.  I did note the lack of emphasis on the DVD format during my search.  It could be an indicator...

The Blu-Ray format has been out for over a decade.  I'm surprised that there's still support for standard DVDs at any level at this point.

still a lot of us that haven't had a chance to upgrade.

probably. though given the Clone Z-95 lacks a hyperdrive, it might not be as sought after by the rebellion (compared to the hyper-capable Y-wing), since they tend to lack sizeable carrier craft. With few carriers, especially early on, the fighters themselves need to be able to enter hyperspace to be of any real offensive use.. fighters without hyperdrives are generally going to be stuck operating out of fixed ground bases or defensively being hauled around docked to the airlocks of the big ships a few at a time.

Yeah, but companies don't want to keep producing stuff for old formats for a long time.  DVDs are cheaper to produce than VHS tapes, but at some point they're going to stop making them in favor of going exclusively to Blu-Ray.

Of course, I could be wrong.  I mean, vinyl records are somehow making a comeback.

the discussion about the legends version of the rebellion vs the current take on it had me thinking.

IMO the legends version of the rebel alliance was telling a story more akin to the American revolutionary war vs the British, wheras I get the feeling that the new story take on it is more like a modern insurgency.

that's not to say they both weren't true to a certain extent, but the old version the rebel alliance was a combination of day to day folks that had sympathy for the fight against the overarching Imperial government, and if they could get away with it certain nominally loyal groups would stab the empire in the back when possible.  The story of the X wings in the Legends canon, was that Incom a nominally loyal Starfighter manufacturer came up with the next generation space superiority fighter, but while the general design specs were set by the Empire, it didn't fit with the emperor's  intended Tie fighter arsenal.  so he rejected the final design, Rebel sympathisers then helped the rebellion retrieve everything needed to begin mass production of the Xwing design.

in the grand scheme of things the Xwing really isn't all that different from the tie interceptor and or the die defender, they are just different emphasis, for example a tie interceptor is faster, but packs similar firepower to an Xwing, but is more fragile (no shields) and more maneuverable

its why in the alphabet soup that the Rebellion uses the Awing is typically intended for a similar role to the tie interceptor even though it has somewhat less firepower. but its speed, maneuverability and durability are similar.

If you've ever played Star Wars: Rebellion, that really represents how the Legends Rebel Alliance you are talking about operated.  As an actual power with loyal worlds, etc.

not open loyalty, but concealed loyalty probably. there were no real front lines, rear areas or occupied territory, but definitely dispersed ships and secret bases all around.

Didn't Imperial power extend even into Hutt space at its height? Case in point, Tatooine?

He's talking about the PC game Star Wars: Rebellion. One of the best SW games ever produced, perhaps the best Sci-Fi strategy game I've played.

The Rebellion was a power unto itself in that one, taking planets and star systems, not a much firepower as the Empire, but still strong and if you could catch a smaller Imperial Fleet, you could smash it. You could either use diplomacy or force to take over a planet, winning battles made planets like you more, each side had heroes you either started with or could recruit, and they could go off and do various missions. It was a great game, and I'm disappointed it's never been remastered, although it is up on GOG.

Oh. I was thinking the Fantasy Flight Board Game of the same name. In a way, it made me think of Empires at War in a lot of ways, but it had its own mechanics, and influence by completing missions helped advance the clock for the Rebellion while the Empire spent time searching for a singular hidden rebel base on the Galactic Map.

Well, it's not there for Last Jedi. We shall see whether other directors keep it in. I think I agree with the commenters that WH scream is known by too many people at this point to be a subtle wink between foley artists and sound designers.

I want there to be a short film of some kind about a laser gun that generates the Wilhelm when it hits a target - human or not. At first the heroes find it funny, then boring, then annoying, and finally ditch the gun, despite its power.
