The mini that started it all...
Once, long ago their were these places called Malls... And in those malls, were smoke shops. Now you would think that in a smoke shop their would be all kinds of smoke producing items (and there were), but they were also notorious for having some of the coolest things. Marble chest boards with metal medieval pieces, knives and swords, and miniatures with little crystals set in them (the original Bedazzler). Sometime, just sometimes, you could find a mini that they couldn't figure out where to set the crystal, which brings us full circle to "The mini that started it all".
My very first mini - AS7-D AtlasWhile all my friends were painting fantasy miniatures, I started with Battletech. Not knowing about acrylics, I used the enamels I had at the time (Testors)... As to the paint scheme, my 16-17 year old self thought the black with red eyes was the height of cool, and was especially proud of the painted brown earth with little plants painted on... See what horrible things happened before the internet.
This mini is over 30 years old. I will never repaint it, because it is a starting point. When I'm unhappy with some other piece I've finished, it helps remind me how far I've come and that practice, patience and a willingness to learn can bring you a long way.
Now on to others...
Davion - Albion Military AcademyNote: This Mech was painted in the early 90s, before I knew what colors the paint scheme for the school was... It is also from a time when I used brush on polyurethane to seal my minis. This was a huge mistake because it tends to age yellow/brown (it destroyed my original 23rd Arcturan Guards and made those 4 the only Mechs I've ever striped and repainted), but that isn't a problem on brown... Where it becomes a problem, is that I think over time the flock is getting imbedded in the sealer, as I can not get that debris off without scraping it off.
Next is a little PlasTech Atlas love (Fat-lases need love too).
Davion - Brigade of Guards - Assault Guards RCTSteiner - 23rd Arcturan GuardsCustom - My Wife's Atlas "Mac"The three PlasTech Atlases show a progression of added detail, that should culminate with the next one, if I ever get around to doing it.
Anyway, those are the five Atlases I currently have painted (for better or worse).
