I like it. A good, solid command mech for non-C3 formations. But maybe you should replace the LRM launcher with a two SRM-4's for more close range firepower or two LRM-5 for laying smoke screens or mines. That leaves you with a spare ton to play with. Maybe for a additional ton of ammo for the missile launchers or a TAG.
Only in death duty ends

I considered some of those options, but ultimately space become the leading hurdle due to adding the massive commgear

Personally I don't like the idea of an XLFE on a command mech... But anyway, the change I'd most like to make is to downgrade the LRM to a 5-rack, add 3 DHS, and upgrade the LLs to ERLLs. Neglible difference at short range, medium range slightly weaker, long range significantly better.

Very similar to an earlier effort on my part that resulted in a mech 100 BV less.

Now that I think about it... Do you actually need 7 ton of comm gear? You get 1 ton free, and 7 tons total gives you all bonuses doesn't it?

Both variants make good mechs, the first one seems better for dealing with standard enemy formations, the latter for a good deal of ranged armor busting.

If you use quirks from the Battlemech Manual, I believe the Cyclops has the "Battle Computer" for a +2 initiative bonus.

Didn't realize you had a free ton of commgear, though I don't know that one ton less will make any dramatic improvements.
