Pilot card
« on: 01 February 2019, 15:11:54 »
i'm not a graphic designer (or even a wannbe amatuer) so i can't replicate the coolness of the box set pilot cards. i am, however, super interested in them as a concept so i went to MS Publisher and made my own less flashy, greyscale template. the idea is to print and then place them in card protectors backed by a playing card (we've got like 20 decks in a drawer)

i figured out how to do shape backgrounds in publisher and transparency in paint3D. also the original fontsize was ridiculously small. this is more on par with the text on the official cards

Could you make a template out of these? I actually really want to make my own at some point.

I'll stick the publisher file (and all the faction logos to use as backgrounds) on dropbox once I'm done tweaking. Here's the pre-final adjustments (140% zoom)

edit: here's what one looks like in a sleeve next to a box set card

Loving these - even just for the fluff and pilot bios

I think the most entertaining part about this project is the exercise in microfiction

i liked the "can use in these eras" icons on the Alpha Strike Cards so I've taken to adding the eras the pilots are in active service

i increased the size of the BV mod at the bottom because when printed you basically need a magnifying glass to make out what it says. also tightened up some of the positioning of various boxes so they don't move around when you enter data in other places (thanks, publisher)

Will the available icons include Jihad, Republic, and Dark Age eras?

i've posted the master files and a tutorial in the above thread. there are only six icons -
Star League
Succession Wars
Clan Invasion
Civil War
Jihad
Dark Age

Early Republic, Late Republic, and Dark Age all use the same graphic, a b/w republic of the sphere logo.
