PRODIGAL SUNS
Unit History:
The Prodigal Suns is an independent BattleMech company that is directly accountable to House Davion. It is a penal unit for Federated Suns MechWarriors of noble rank who have committed serious crimes, but who are too influential to be dealt with impartially under the law. Inspired by Wolf's Dragoons' Black Widow Company, the experiment to form a penal BattleMech company was implemented for the first time by Prince Hanse Davion in 3023. The MechWarriors assigned to such a unit serve out their sentences in the company, with death sentences commuted to life. These MechWarriors expect and receive the most dangerous mission assignments and casualties are high. Penal Unit - 001 accounted well for itself, returning some honor to the noble families of its members before the unit was destroyed during the 3024 reconquest of New Ivaarsen. Convinced by this success, the Prince ordered the formation of another, Penal Unit - 002, called the Prodigal Suns.

His father is an elderly Count of some standing. MW Marisha Shiba - From a world in the Draconis March that has changed hands quite a bit between Davion and Kurita over the centuries. The revelation of her (and her family's) ties to the Yakuza landed her in the unit. Heir to a strategic Barony. Lft. Tomas Salazar - Decorated and Knighted MechWarrior who killed a civilian in a bar fight. Convicted of Manslaughter. MW Solomon kaMpande - Periphery world Count. Killed a superior officer in a duel. MW Roger Vasquez - Hotshot MechWarrior at fault for a friendly fire incident that resulted in a death. Heir to a rich Barony. MW Arkady Petrovich – War hero and war criminal. Slaughtered civilians during a raid in the Combine while in the grip of a PTSD hallucination. Lord of a small Barony. Lft. Olivia Montague – Countess (via marriage - widowed). Demoted from Captain. Convicted of blackmail against several superior officers and nobles. Nonetheless, a talented officer and MechWarrior. MWs – Luther and Logan Frye. Twin ducal heirs. Dangerous sociopaths who together murdered their father. Luther is talkative and a narcissist and Logan is silent and prone to violence. Luther is a talented musician and Logan an artist. MW Connor Shaw – A true berserker who, in the heat of battle, has fired on his own to get to an enemy. The last incident ended the career of another MechWarrrior. Baron of an important fief. Lft. Salome Fischer – Knighted aerospace pilot famous for the championships she has won in aeronautical racing. A daredevil whose antics caused a dropship to make a crash landing. Plt. Marc DeVries – A one man black marketeer. His mother is a border Marquesas. Sgt. Harrison Talbot – A “by the book” military police NCO of humble origins. Volunteered to serve in Penal Unit – 002 for the chance of promotion. Sgt Eliza Meyer – Brilliant, but insubordinate BattleMech technician NCO. Assigned to the Prodigal Suns as punishment for ignoring proper protocol with superior officers. Cmdr Felix Lambert – Experienced combat dropship pilot with a serious gambling problem. Assigned to transport Penal Unit – 002 as punishment for his many outstanding debts.
The Command Lance does not function as a combat asset by itself, rather, Capt. Bryant attaches himself to the Battle or Strike Lance as needed and MW Shiba performs recon and indirect fire spotter missions on her own - as she prefers.
