MechWarrior Second Edition Optional rule.

Optional rules for MechWarrior Second Edition.
The spaces below are the current rules I have that I just need to change formats on.
Feel free to add any of your Optional/Home rules here.
Constructive opinions and ideas are welcome. :thumbsup:

General Rule changes.

New Skills

Language rules
Ex. Language/ English, Language/ German.

Follow all rules as presented in the Mechwarrior companion (2nd edition) page 21 under Special Interest skill with the following changes.
1. The skills is changed from SI: Language (English) 1 to Language/ English 1 for record keeping reasons.

2. As per MW companion you are fluent if you have a skill of 2+ in the language.

3. A skills of 3+ is considered Academy/ University level understanding of the language, thus no player is allowed to raise their language skill above 2 outside of an Academy/ University package during character creation.

4. During play a PC may only increase his/her language skill
   1.   It is done during off time and they inform the GM that their PC is taking
        Academy/ University level classes on the subject. (Per GM’s approval with
        expected financial cost inferred)
   2.   PC made substantial use of the skill in-game at a level that would (by level
        of difficulty) show strides to improve the PC’s level in the skill. (talking about
        physics or other high-end vocabulary)

5.  Uses of the language skill can provide a bonus or penalty to Social rolls of -/+ 2 depending on the relationship to the target and results (Roll language before Social roll). The PC receives a bonus with friendly targets for showing respect in using the native language of the target even if they use it poorly. For unfriendly targets the PC receives a bonus with the targets for showing respect in using the native language, but a penalty if the roll fails and nothing if the roll succeeds. With neutral targets the PC receives a bonus with the targets for showing respect in using the native language, but a penalty if the roll fails.

6. For easy of play, PC’s are able to read and write the language with a skill level of 2+ in the Language. Level 1 indicates the ability to speak and understand only.

Culture rules
Ex. Culture/Draconis Combine, Culture/Outback.

Culture is basically a skill deals with the social customs and traditions in a given state, society or on a given planet. It follows most of the rules for the Protocol skill.



Leveling/Character Creation Rule Changes.

1. Any skill that brings about the awarding of an AP is marked with a check mark during play.
2. No skill can be raised unless it has been used during play (per GM’s permission) or it has received a check mark during play.
3. All skills require the uses of both AP and Skill points to raise. (Also see above)
4. Do not use the rules for only AP or Skill points only advancement.
5. No skill can be raised higher than +1 above the lowest attribute contributing to the connected characteristic. (Ex. If the player has Reflexes 3 and Intuition 5, Piloting/Battlemech is limited to level 4)
6. Raising an Attribute to max level (before Racial Modifiers) requires expenditure of double the attribute points. (Ex. A level 6 attribute for a human cost 4 points for Intuition and 2 points for all other Attributes, where Level 6 Reflexes cost only 5 points for the Clan Mechwarrior Racial Class, but level 7 cost 7 points.)

Affiliation Optional rules:
1. Choose Affiliation and sub-Affiliation.
2. All players get Culture/Affiliation level 1.
3. All Players get Language/Affiliation Primary, and Language/English at level 1
4. Player may Choose either Language/ Affiliation Secondary level 1 or to raise Language/English or Affiliation Primary to level 2
4. Take the three skills from the list at level 1. (Skills follow all rules from MW2 character creation)

Mechwarrior 2nd Hybrid Vehicle Combat System (Coming Soon)

Will be a fully integrated combat system using a hybrid of (MW 2nd/Alpha Strike/MW:Destiny)
