How about if the Blakists started the Jihad differently?
In 3067, there were more than a few powder kegs waiting to go off. What the Blakists did was use a nuke to set them off, when they should have simply used a match or a torch. While Cameron St. Jamais was calculating in his planning and building up their forces in secret, the way he started the Jihad seems like something he pulled out of his ass.
As ComStar, and later the Word of Blake, they have frequently masked their true identity when conducting operations. Instead of just simply bombarding Sian, have troops disguised as Capellan and FedSuns troops launch raids across the borders causing large scale collateral damage (aka massacres). It would reported up the chain of command that Death Commandos did that or 5th Syrtis Fusiliers did that. Do similar raids on the FWL-Capellan, the FWL-Lyran (which they actually did do on Skye albeit using actually FWL troops), Clan-IS, Lyran-DC and DC-FS borders and you suddenly have the 5th Succession War. Then they could chose to launch their own attacks, sorry interventions to restore peace, at a time and place of their own choosing.
It would be in the spirit of the pre-Reformation ComStar. Let everybody fight amongst themselves while we watch from the shadows.
The Jihad does appear to be 'Plan B' temper tantrum...Plan A was here is a new SLDF now lets destroy the Clans...SL is disolved = Plan B...Kill Everyone!!!
