“We thank you for the help defending us.” One of the Sulubba elders thanks Bully.
“That is what we are here for.”
“Maybe we can offer some help to you and the Governor in the form of information.”
“Information is always of use.”
“Well about a month ago some of our scouts spotted four Battlemech, four vehicles and two VTOL’s here in the desert north of the Kiso Mountains. We did not think much of this as we know of the GSF and that you field many Battlemechs. But now that we see how you paint you equipment we know that they are not yours. We have pictures of them if you would care to see them.”
“Yes we would very much.”
Walking to one of the GSF vehicles and pulling out a data pad. “These are the units that our scouts spotted.” Flipping through the images they see an Archer, Thunderbolt, Ostsol, Griffin, two wheeled and two hover vehicles that have kicked up a lot of sand so that they are just basic shapes and last off two Karnov VTOLS.
“How far into the desert would you think they were when you came across them?”
“About seven days travel from here.”
“Thank you for this information.”

How close is Leaf to the desert north of the Kiso mountains?  I'm trying to determine if there is a connection between the two units.

You do have the maps in the packet I gave you. Dawn did a great job in doing them. They are of great use.  >:D

Now on to your question.

No even close.  The GSF has been on a mission not far from the mountains and forests the house the village of Leaf.

Hey gang, looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow... (and maranthian's ghost  8) ;D)

forces:  avatar (as mech), galleon (as vehicle), pegasus (as other), schiltron 2(as BA inf) will be fielding arty loadout carrying full mix of ammo types...  (have I got smoke rounds yet?  Can't remember when they were due to arrive onplanet and if they got interdicted with all the chaos offworld or not.)

if any of them are offlimits, figure the other schiltron as a replacement for any of the 3 vehicles mentioned above and the second owens as replacement for the avatar if I deployed it in one of the last 2

OK so as long as mother nature does not mess things up we are set for 1/22/23 and 2/26/23.

Just a little something  >:D

“Thanks for the help if they got close it would have been real bad for us.”
“By having them chase you this far it cut down out our travel time. The caves help in that sensors could not find you also.”
“We were just looking to keep them from any of the settlements and looking to keep our skins.”
“Well it worked and they are moving off, but we will escort you home just in case they want to turn around.”
“Thanks.”

“Quintin honey can we talk?”
“Sure Jemma what’s up?”
“I talked with Deb and she thinks that she with Dejah can help with the armor. She did make it very clear that it will take time and that will cost some big favors. She also pointed out that to look for any of the more tech based armor at this time will be too high of a risk and that maybe after things cool down we might think about it.”
“Sounds like a start. It would be nice to have the other armors but I do see how that could be too much at this time.” Looking at her. “Somehow I just you have more than that.”
“Well if you don’t have a problem with it, I have been thinking that the techs that moved the IS and GDL scout armors should stay in them. They can pull double duty in that they would be the crew and techs for them. The suits are now fitted to them after all and they have more time using them than any of our other people.”
“OK that can work, have you talked with the other command staff about this?”
“Yes and they are the ones that wanted me to talk to you. We feel that the ISBA should work with the Firestarter it will give the unit more flex and it makes better use of that ‘Mech. Yes the tech are green but with time they will get better, that and to find troopers who can use battle armor out here with all that is going on will not be easy. We also think that by keeping the techs that moved the Blizzard in it as the crew plus the techs in the GDL armor with them we have the start for a good scout unit. Yes they will be green but it is a start and we have one more unit to patrol with.”
“OK that all works but the Blizzard is going to be light.”
“True but for now as a patrol unit that is not a problem and Sandra and Linda may have a line on some ground pounders that can fill in the extra space.”
“OK but make sure that they check out. With WoB around I know they will try to slip in people.”
‘They are working on that. The people they are talking with are what the survivors of a unit that got chopped up by the Ghost Bears and need to find work so once we get word from the MRBC we will take from that point.”
“OK just keep me in the loop.”
“You still mad about the home touches?”
“Yes and no. Just do keep in mind that this is my command not yours.”
“No problem sweetie. You keep in mind I do know what I’m doing also.” She winks and smiles. “OH before I forget I am working with Niobe on a better way to use all the toys you have in the bay. We are looking to see about training up some of the tech crews to use them as security patrols for the base. They can cover a lot of ground and the heavy weapons they have will make people think twice about trespassing.”
“Good to see that you two are working together.”
“Honey I have no problem taking orders from you or her. I do know who is in charge and how things stand. Niobe also wants to keep the tech working on and in the Centurion. It makes for one more unit to keep the base safe. The move will also keep the tech happy as it is an honor thing to pilot a combat ‘Mech. It also works out if someone needs a ride due to damage. It may not be the latest tech but it will keep out unwanted guests.”

Fuka entered the Colonel's office to find Euron, Alannah, and, curiously, Chief Tech Hoare waiting for her.
"You wanted to see me, sir?"  She asked Euron.

"I did."  Euron replied.  "I have good news.  Lady Sugai has agreed to our proposal to station a permanent 'Mech garrison in Hilo to defend the city."

"That's great, sir."  Fuka perked up.

"On top of that," Alannah added, "the Colonel and I have decided that you will be the first recruit for the lance."

"Considering that it is your hometown, it seemed the logical choice." said Euron.

Fuka couldn't believe her ears.  Not only would her city be protected by Battlemechs, but that she would be one of her city's new defenders.  "That's...that's amazing!  Thank you, Colonel.  I won't let you down, sir."  She saluted, which Euron returned.

"Good."  said Euron.  "Now then, we should turn to the technical details."  He gestured to the Chief Technician.  "Harald, we still have all the machines we recovered from the Pegasus mission.  We're going to need at least some of them repaired to operational capacity."

"Very well."  Harald nodded.  "Which machines would you like me to prioritize?"

Euron turned back to the Hilo native.  "Well, Fuka, what do you think?"

Fuka pointed to herself in surprise.  "Wait?  You want me to decide?"

"It's your home."  Euron assented.  "You're also authorized to operate any 'Mech in our arsenal.  So, take your pick.  You can even choose Crow's Eye if you so desire."

At this, Fuka shook her head and waved her hands in the negative.  "Oh no, sir.  I couldn't take Crow's Eye.  She's yours, sir.  I've been honored that you've allowed me to borrow her, but I would never part you from your own 'Mech, even if you do have Silence now.  Besides, Marauders have come to be accepted as Ironborn 'Mechs by the people of Hilo.  No one would think a Marauder would belong to anyone but you and yours, sir."

"Then what would you suggest, Miss Hiyami?"  asked Alannah.

Fuka poured over the list of available 'Mechs before alighting on one particular machine.  "Colonel, Major, Hoare-sama, if I might beg an indulgence from you.  Would it be possible for me to pilot the SLDF Royal Black Knight?  It's the same speed and tonnage as Crow's Eye with similar weapons systems.  I think I would be able to acclimatize myself to it quite easily."

Euron smiled.  "Done.  Harald, how long would it take to get it running?"

Hoare thought for a moment before answering, "Given the damage and that it needs to be decontaminated, I would say about a month, maybe two."

"Do it."  Euron insisted.  "What else, Fuka?"

"Hmmm."  Fuka checked again.  "I think the Javelin 11A might be a good choice.  It doesn't need ammo and all those lasers are perfect for short-range encounters.  The Starslayer or the Phoenix Hawk 3D would also be great.  Umm, I don't suppose you would let me have the Ostscout or the Mongoose perhaps?"

"You can have one or the other of those last two."  Euron replied.  "ELINT 'Mechs are difficult to come by, after all.  Harald, prioritize Fuka's choices for repair.  Also, they can't be painted in Ironborn colors.  These are Hilo's 'Mechs, after all.  They can't be seen as being ours.  I'll also ask Lady Sugai if we should add the Sugai family crest to the overall paint scheme."

"I actually have an idea for how they should be painted."  Fuka spoke up.  "I think it will work perfectly for the theme of this force."

"Oh?"  Euron quirked an eyebrow.  "And what might that be?"

"I'll draw it out for you and show you when I'm done."  answered Fuka, the ideas already coming into her head.  "Let's just say it will fit with the feng shui of Hilo."

"Well then," Alannah chimed in.  "Perhaps we should discuss pilots next.  In addition to Fuka, I would strongly suggest that you place your sister Beryl in this lance, Colonel.  She has been chafing at her inaction since she arrived on-planet.  I believe that once she returns from her time with Loyalty Foresworn, she's going to demand an assignment."

"Yes."  Euron agreed.  "My sister has always been a handful, even for our parents and my late brother Balon.  In addition, she can represent both House Greyjoy and House Blacktyde in the new unit, as she's Greyjoy by birth and Blacktyde by marriage."

"To represent House Harlaw, I would put forward my nephew Bors when he returns from the Dragon's Clutch." Alannah continued.  "He's still young, but he's old enough to pilot a 'Mech into battle if needs be."

"Agreed."  Euron nodded.  "Now all we need is a Botley, and I can't think of any other choice but Isolde."

Fuka was a bit apprehensive at that.  Although she considered Isolde a friend, the younger woman had been quite flirtatious with her in the past. If they had to work together, it could prove quite distracting.  She had been hesitant to try and let her down back then, now she might have no other option.  "I...can live with that.  Colonel, if I could make one last request?"

"Go on."

Fuka steeled herself.  "This lance is going to need a technical crew to maintain and repair them.  Would it be possible...if Julia-san could be in charge of the engineering team?"

Euron considered that for a long time.  "Hmm.  That's a big ask, Fuka.  One that I can't give an answer to right away.  However, I will take it under advisement for the moment."

Fuka nodded in understanding.  Hai, Colonel."

"Well, if there's nothing else to discuss right now, this meeting is adjourned.  I'll tell Lady Sugai of who and what we plan to send to Hilo for the new defense force.  Dismissed."

Fuka stood and bowed before leaving, Harald following behind her.

“I am happy that you have offered to provide extra security to Hilo and the area around it.” Amalaa Sugai offers tea to Alaanah Harlaw.
“With all that you have done to help us over our short time here this is just a little something to say thank you.”
“Please setting up a lance of Battlemechs to provide security to Hilo is no small thing. That and you will have a local as part of this is something the people of Hilo will not forget.”
“We are doing this as much for our self you know. We have interests in Hilo that need protection and with the way things have worked out our family we will do this.” Alaanah will taste the tea and find it quite good.
“We will offer any support to help you with this security force. Sho-sa Sato will help you find a site for the new force to work from and will have some of the local militia provide some armored support as well.” Amalaa offers Alaanah some snacks. “They will not be the newest units we have but they will provide the ground support that will be needed.”
“Any support will be most welcome. Thank you.” Alaanah will find some very different items in the tray. “The force will take a couple of months to be ready but they will be ready for service when they take up station.”
“We of the Sugai Ichizoku thank you and look forward to working together for a long time.”

“OK people move out and stay out of sight. We are to see what the recon sats spotted only.”

“Control we have some heavies moving here and they sure do not belong to anyone that should have them. They have ECM running so the handhelds can’t get a reading. From what we see they have an Archer, Thunderbolt, Ostsol, Griffin, two Karnovs and two hover and wheeled vehicles we do not recognize.”
“Roger that field team we will get a heavy team out to that area to see what is going on.”

“All GSF commands you will need to prep units for a mission north of Anheru Taki. We have a report of combat units operating in that area. Early reports have three (3) Heavy and one (1) Medium Battlemechs plus armored and VTOL support. Specs are in the packet.”

This is for the mission on the 22nd
This will be normal deployment for the GSF units.
Any units from mission 74 (the one at Vulcan Arms) until now are in the field and can not be used for this mission.

"Speaking of which," Alannah mentioned.  "Colonel Greyjoy wanted to know if we should incorporate the Sugai Ichizoku family crest into the final paint schemes Miss Hiyami is going to provide.  Hilo is still your territory and the Colonel agreed that the lance not be painted in Ironborn colors so as to avoid confusion as to whose force this is.  What say you on this matter?"

Back at Camp Haken...

"This is how you want us to paint them?"  Julia said, looking up from the sketches Fuka had just given her.

"Hai, nee-san."  Fuka replied, looking quite pleased with herself.

"This is way too gaudy, even for us."  Julia shook her head.  "This one has tiger stripes, and this has a turtle shell painted on it.  I can see what you're going for here, but this is gonna stick out like a quartet of sore thumbs."

"They're the four gods of feng shui."  Fuka explained.  "Byakko, the white tiger of the west.  Genbu, armored tortoise of the north.  Seiryu, the water dragon of the east, and of course, Suzaku, the red phoenix of the south."

"I know what they're supposed to be."  Julia nodded.  "But to paint the whole 'Mech as each god-beast.  Anybody attacking Hilo is gonna wonder if they're fighting Battlemechs or a circus."

"They're meant to be distinctive.  Also, they will appeal to the people of Hilo."  Fuka said.  "They'll look up at their protectors almost like they're the city's very own team of super-heroes."

Julia rolled her eyes.  "I still say they look ridiculous, Fuka.  Whoever the Colonel puts in charge of this force is probably going to have a thing to say about your design choices.  I also think the Sugais are going to have to approve these paint jobs before they let them take the field.  Also, Harald told me you asked the Colonel to have me put in charge of the repair and maintenance for these machines.  Arigatou gozaimashita, Fuka-chan.  I'm glad you thought of me."

"It's nothing, nee-san."  Fuka smiled.  "I know you were angry at the Colonel when he wouldn't let you in to the pilot trials.  Maybe, this way, he'll let you off the base and you might have a bit more freedom."

"He hasn't decided anything yet."  Julia reminded her.  "He could just as easily say no."

"There's still time."  Said Fuka.  "Let's just stay positive, ne?"

Is there a racing industry for the chocobo? If not "Ibis" will try and start one, because of the sheer absurdity of it.

The oniwatari are not big enough, weight and shoulder wise, to carry a rider, but they do have races (similar to chicken) at fairs and festivals for ribbons and\or gambling

Axcis asteroid S428, is a resource mining base with two grav decks in the outer belt of the Nejiro system. It is an umbrella shaped rocky asteroid that is 337.5 km tall and 1225 km in diameter at its widest point with no atmosphere and little gravity of its own. It is headquarters to the Argos Odyssey Survey Project.

Yokonamy is a large dwarf planetoid in the outer belt of the Nejiro system, that is mostly hollow. The inside, accessible from large impact sites and craters on its surface (big enough to fit some dropship classes and small craft, is geodesic with immense crystals thousands of meters high with several hollow spaces suitable for ship construction, docks, and repair bays. It is just under 1932 km in diameter with no atmosphere and due to its low mass its gravity is just .33 meters per second squared. There are habitat and factory accommodations for fabrication and industrial projects, offices, assayers, material science labs, workshops, and residences. Ekashiba has labs, workshops, and factories here manufacturing carbon nanotube superconductors and other similar materials. Technora has shipyards here that construct aerospace drones, small craft, and satellites (energy, military, and communication). There are also independent prospectors and survey companies.

Cockatoo asteroid N186 in the inner belt of the Nejiro system, is of irregular shape and twenty two hundred kilometers at its widest diameter with negligible gravity and no atmosphere. But it is in a central location to a large number of mining facilities and as such has numerous independent spacedocks and repair bays for mining vehicles and equipment. There are also some small craft yards, salvage yards, refining and processing centers, and a residential habitat with four grav decks built around the center of the asteroid, with several guildhalls, warehouses and factories, two dropship bays, a bazaar, an NPO Celestial Patrol Tower, and a contingent of NDT Space Marines.
