Me and Kevin Killiany were throwing around an idea a while back about a "TP:Lite" kinda of product: a shrapnel-sized story up front, and then a small unit break out / scenario data.  For something like this, I dunno if there's enough "meat" to make a full TP product (with the world break out and RATs and yadda-yadda!  :D ;D ) but there's a lot more than just a story there, you know?

I still don't know how to crack that nut- a double shrapnel submission, maybe?  dunno.  but there's certainly (IMHO) a vacuum that could be filled by a different kind of small, PDF product for tiny lil' battles like that. :-)

FWIW, I think that is a fantastic idea. Mini TP/BW entries in Shrapnel focused on smaller skirmishes or even a single battle. Something with a smaller narrative portion, some pointers on force creation (maybe reference other products rather than have RAT's for that cross-promotion upsell?), some suggestions on terrain/maps, and maybe three small tracks would be super fun. I already eat up anything Shrapnel, but this would definitely be some delicious icing on that cake.

main questions it would need to address:
why were they fighting over that world at that time
Why was candace Liao there?
Did the fedsuns know she was there?

Thanks!  But it's actually not a good shrapnel idea, at least, not any more?  a story would be about 4-6K words, another 3.5K in describing the battle (essentially, "non-fiction") plus another couple thousanf for tracks and stuff.  And that's all words and pages that would be taken from some other author, you know?  would have to be bumped to the next issue.

that's why I think it's better as a mini PDF thing, but wouldn't fit in any of the current product lines.  But they'd be fun to write! :-)

Sartris!  The que just moved 2 spots.  I'm at number 4 now.  Almost there...

Now, how do I break it to the editor that I want to rewrite it as two stories?  With a third one planned to make an eventual trilogy of stories in the arc.   :-X  >:D :screw_loose: :excited:   :ticked:  :stupid:

Edit: yes, I check the que every day like a damn fool dreamer

Can't even imagine a reimagined devastator. I didn't think the devastator was out of place with new designs.

Now, a real puzzler:  after all those, what is left of the original TRO: 3025 mechs?

All I can come up with is Javelin, Whitworth, and Charger.  Any others?

As far as I understand:
Originally from 3025: Javelin, Clint, Hermes II, Whitworth, Quickdraw, Charger
Originally from 2750: Thorn, Hermes, Hussar, Wyvern, Kintaro, Champion, Bombardier
Originally from Wolf's Dragoons sourcebook: Flea, Hornet, Falcon, Shogun, Imp
Originally from 3050: Wolf Trap, Hatamato-Chi, Mauler

How about setting up to run over 6 or more shrapnels? Fiction, world, units from faction A, units from faction b, campaign battles part 1 then 2, would allow you more space while not taking it from others in one big chunk, I don't know how receptive TPTB would be to it but I might be worth asking about and if someone starts it off it might open it up to others and give TPTB a place to include campaigns they want to cover that are too big for a one off shrapnel but too small or niche for a PDF of its own or inclusion in another more main stream pdf and maybe extend the number of shrapnel issues, if people are willing to pay for campaigns/spotlight on's in installments.

Well, the old BattleTechnology magazine often (Maybe "Always"? I'd have to check.) had a scenario or 2 in them.  Usually for BT, but they had a few for the MW RPG also.

Personally, I only ever played 1 of the BT Scenarios, but I'm sure there are people out there that played every single one, multiple times.
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

Something to bear in Mind. Defending the BT IP is Frowned upon here.

I want to ask this again just in case my question (or the answer) got buried.

Is it the minis that are exclusive to B&N, or is it just this combination of minis that's exclusive?   In other words, could we see each mini appear in sets with other minis in the future?

What about the Ost mechs(OstScout, Ostol, and Ostroc)? Also, there's still the original 3 LAMs (Stinger, Wasp, and Phoenix Hawk) and the 2 Quads (Scorpion and Goliath).

How many people would mind if they quietly swept LAMs under the rug?

Quads though, they probably do need a remake; they may be the red-headed step child of battletech, but they are still normal mechs doing normal mech things, and the Scorpion and Goliath kinda always looked out of place in a way other quads don't

Ostscout has already been revealed, RecGuide #2?  Te Ostol art was out with Empire Alone IIRC.  And we have had a picture of a Scorpion leg and a Goliath already though I do not know if it was unseen or PP.

I would mind.

I've a company of each Stinger-, Wasp- and Phoenix Hawk-LAMs and a lance of kitbashed Shadow Hawk-LAMs.

I would be miffed if they became scrap metal.

Indeed, the rules haven't gone away.  I never suggested a retcon.
But maybe focus attention on stuff that fits better thematically and stylistically which LAMs never did.  CGL hasn't indicated any interest in revamping vehicles and those are far less out of place.
