Pretty much occupied by VTOL BA or jump infantry . . . but who would not want to see-

Zooming about the battlefield?

I'd love to see Little Nellie zooming about the battlefield.  >:D

Hoverbikes . . . you said b/c they were 'cycles' they could move through woods, to clarify just light woods?  How do they handle buildings?  I am thinking of using a hoverbike just for s&g in a upcoming game to have something racing around.

You make me wish we would have thought of that in TacOps. Letting bikes go through light buildings would have been awesome!

Ok, just wanted to check since Protomechs handle them more like infantry than mechs.

Using SSVs is all about tradeoffs. Individual bikes are a LOT faster, but grouping them into a motor or mechinf platoons gives you infantry shenanigans such as looting Aisle 3.

Just looking to wring the max advantage I can when I bring it rather than it being considered a init sink in a combined arms battle.  Spotting for a Archer's IDF, backshooting, and blocking enemy movement are the top 3 right now.

Can these small SVs let MagClamp BA ride?  MagClamp protos?

I highly doubt it in both cases. I know they can't carry regular BA even if they're Omnis, but it might be worth checking with the Rules Forum.

Pretty sure it would not work with Protos, mechs get a penalty depending on size of mech & proto.  I would imagine it would work the same as the Omni answer, since magclamps are more restrictive on the carrying vehicle.

Love to see some Dragoon PA(L) or Light BA . . . rides a motorcycle or hoverbike to get to a deployment area, dismounts and proceeds as the normal BA.  But operate/dismount has not been a mechanic BT included for table top, leaving it to RPGs.

I would think they would be a weight issue with battlearmor.  too heavy may cause certain vehicles to have issue with its handling from that may cause it to tip over.

Respectfully, you couldn't have just given them a quick mod notice? Seems a bit extreme to purge the article, even temporarily, over one member throwing out the outline of a hypothetical custom.

There... was a mod notice. And multiple requests not to discuss custom units. Because people kept doing it.

EDIT: And also the standing rule not to discuss custom units in the fan articles section.

I thought it was a good article.  I like all kinds of support vehicles in general as they add a kind of RL component to BattleTech where there was none previously - at least officially, anyway.

I still think their integration into the game, specifically small support vehicles, is a missed opportunity that I hope is addressed by TPTB in the future.

It is a great write up, gives me good reason to look up those books.

I disagree with my fellow players about it being a 'missed opportunity' but rather hard to fit in a game with Battlemechs that can stomp tanks underfoot. I won't argue about rules or perceptions on infantry in game as this is what killing a great topic but I see the inclusion of Small Support Vehicles as something great for RPing and world build (much like the stuff in TRO:VA) and while I don't believe we need stats for every vehicle (no, I don't want starts for a 2039 Honda Civic) it's great to have solid examples for gaming purposes.

I think my favorite of them is that Hell's Horses hovering.  It reminds me of a Star Wars AAT combined with a STAP.

I agree. I do hope we get better integration in the future. I also hope we get more small vehicles. Ever since Combat Equipment, I figured that small vehicles could be a lot tech/low cost alternative, and even counter, to Battle Armor. Especially since they'd already be in service. They worked well in that roll with the RPG Support Weapon Conversion Table in Combat Equipment. They got really nerfed with TechManual. :( Still, envisioning swarms of Tankettes charging a Battle Armor Platoon makes me smile.  ;D

Article restored. The next time any post even twitches in the direction of non-canon designs or rules, it will be disappeared forever. People put a lot of work into these articles, it's time everyone else learned that disrespect has consequences.

I'm very confused. SSVs *are* integrated into the game, as are their larger cousins.
