While I admit that IKEO might provide information that changes this, right now my view of the 3rd League is that I already have plenty of Falcons, the Wolves don't interest me at all aside from the Dominator, we know literally nothing about the new Jaguars, and my local group already has a Raven player.

Ghost Bears/RasDom?

Or a Blood Spirit ilChi who was brought to the Inner Sphere by the Ravens when they left Clan space?

A question for Cubby or anyone who wants to answer. How should I think of the Recognition Guide compilations in print vs our familiar TROs? Do RGs basically replace the TRO line or publish in parallel?

AFAIK, there will be future products called "Technical Readout." The Recognition Guide compilation volumes are just that--compilations of the "Recognition Guide" PDF series. It's possible that there will be a PDF series of Recognition Guide: Something Else in the future, which could get Recognition Guide compilations. No current plans, just leaving ourselves some elbow room. But the idea of "Technical Readouts" isn't going anywhere as far as I'm aware.

There will be a new Star League Defense Force that is not just all the Clan toumans glued together. A new Regular Army, a separate Commanding General, etc.

I know because I've already painted and fielded a 3153 3SL Regular Army force in a recent tournament!

Definitely interested to know more! Can’t wait for IKEO and its novel.

Already catching up to the 3250 snippets we’ve seen

All Clan totems are equal but some are more equal than others.

"The Succession Wars solved no problem. Their effects, both immediate and indirect, were either negative or disastrous. Morally subversive, economically destructive, socially degrading, confused in their causes, devious in their course, futile in their results, they are the outstanding example in Spheroid history of meaningless conflict."
The Third Star League's view of the Succession Wars, plagiarised from an ancient Terran historian's judgement of the Thirty Years War.

Of all the qualities of the original Star League to revive, boring as sin paint schemes shouldn't have been on the top of the list. Alaric lacks a lot of things, but flair thus far hasn't been one of them!

While I agree in principle, boring is better than impossible for all but CSO painters.

The only reason I'm a CSO painter is because I sat down and tried harder. I don't have any special talent or inherent skill. I practiced, I watched tutorials, and I applied what I learned. It was tough, but not impossible. There are still things that I can't do, but they don't intimidate me because I know that I once felt the same about things I can now do easily. The same applies to writing. Only a select few people have the inherent talent "I win" button. The rest of us just have to work at it.

Yes, but he renamed it Olive ilDrab. Totally different. Clearly the greatest paint scheme to ever grace the battlefield.

Yeah, and I could probably do a 1st Falcons Sentinels or Stone's Brigade mech if I really tried. Probably a damned good job of it, too. The issue that that the sheer amount of work needed to do an entire force in a scheme like that is just too damned high.

Crazy schemes for a unique character or a small elite formation is one thing. But entire brigades or even whole factions with crazy very-high-effort schemes pretty much cut that brigade or faction out of a typical player's options.

I respect the position from which it was said and the intent behind it, but "just get better" is not the answer I'm looking for when a paint scheme for a unit I like is difficult or not fun to paint.

I'm not asking for a peacock scheme here. Maybe navy blue with a white stripe or something just a tiny bit more snappy!

This. THIS is what we're talking about when we talk about interesting paint schemes. Not the stuff that calls for an impressionist painting across half the machine and does not care what kind of surface details you might be asking us to wrap it around.

Base color and a highlight color or two. That's all we ask.

ooh like the Fire Mandrill posts they've shown in the mini's forum!!!   j/k!!! (fyi the CFM units are amazing looking!)

I'm a non-painter, too.  I don't need army-man all green (or tan or white or grey ... et. al.), but simple with a splash of something is always good.  I also have a soft spot for a nice dark olive drab color (I almost miss the Army, almost).

one of these days I will clean out my garage and make a summer painting habitat ... if I ever get to retire!

Shrapnel I’m looking forward to as well. Shadow of the Dragon? I just tried googling it and came up empty  I’m assuming Kurita-related but what other details are known?

Agreed. I have gotten better (arguably) over the last 10 years of painting battalions at a time, and I've picked up some great, reliable, and simple techniques. And I've learned where my skill level stops. Short of chain links & crysanthemums.

Technically not the retaliation packs, the new listings have the minis from AGOAC and the original Beginner's Box as two separate items, while the Clan Invasion one includes the Elementals while the Clan Retaliation box didn't.
