I think prepaints have a lot of potential for the game.

I’m not super excited about mixing them with unpainted minis in the same box. It seems like it would be unsatisfactory to both painters and non-painters alike.

We’ll see how it goes.

In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal to me.

So, CGL announced during PAX that they are going to be releasing faction specific force manuals next year, and previously hinted during this year that it will also be releasing faction specific force packs in the future.

During PAX, CGL has also announced release of Star League force packs during next year, but nothing about force packs for factions whose force manuals are going to be released.

Am I missing something here? I thought releasing both a force manual and a force pack for a given faction would be a sure thing.

During the stream, somebody asked if the Force Manuals would be accompanied by boxed sets.

Instead of answering the question, Bryn deflected (IMO) by asking him to clarify what he meant
by a "boxed set" (whereas ForcePacks would have been the obvious answer).

When did they say that?!

Last I heard was (and I’m paraphrasing) was “That sounds interesting idea, it’s something we can look to try”

IIRC, it was mentioned during one of the Adepticon streams. I'll see if I can find a link/timestamp..

EDIT :

timestamp 29:47 - faction-specific ForcePacks

and

timestamp 50:40 - Inner Sphere Omnis would be part of some of the upcoming faction-specific ForcePacks

That's what I am asking myself. That's what I though that was the case and made most sense. You strike the iron while it's hot, two birds with one stone, etc...

They confirmed faction packs in those, but not tandem releases with Force Manuels.

Best that was said was Scroggins saying a “Kurita style and play guide with a Kurita pack” which sounds more like an insert or an intermediate step between a simple force pack and a box.

Even if that was the plan then, it's possible for plans to change.  How many vapourware products have we seen over the years, or products that were announced and came out very changed later?

Will the box cost increase as a result?

I asked that during the follow-on stream with Aaron and Bryn.  They basically said they don't know yet but their intent is for any increase to be as little as possible.  We'll see...

At 30:07, Anthony states that they would tandem release

Quote
... and they will tandem release with a book that teaches you how to play that faction in a more fluffy manner...

But as noted plans can and do change.

I know it's deeply unsatisfying to me. I don't want prepainted miniatures, really ever. I don't want the hassle of having to strip the Mech I just bought. I don't want mechs prepainted from units or characters I'd never field. Just a real loss for me.

I was on the fence about the Star League Command box to begin with, and it tipped it over to the 'not interested' category for me because of it. It's not the end of the world of course, but its really not something I'm interested in picking up at all.

Well Big Red, TPTB seem to pay attention to what you say in your videos.  Maybe they'll listen if you echo the comments from this thread on your channel?

the lead times for minis production are massive, consider that the Kickstarter minis are shipping from Liya by the end of the year for a release sometime before the summer.  Odds are this lance pack is already in production if not shipping.

Oh, I have 0 expectation that this won't happen. I just know it's something I'm really not interested in. I don't really buy mech-boxes to have a mech painted like a character for a force I don't play. And painting over it loses detail. And I don't want to deal with stripping it. It loses 1/4th of the value of the box for me out the gate.

Looking at this POST upthread, it looks like there will only be four prepainted 'Mechs this year (unless some of the projects they can't tell us about will also have them).

Yea, one for each forcepack they release each quarter.

I'm not trying to be a downer here, but frankly, that just means 4 Forcepacks I'm not interested in.

What is going to be in Rec Guide 33? Loki II, Mauler, Hatomoto? What else from the kickstarter didn't get a Rec Guide entry?

Nothing else from the Kickstarter, but the Spartan, Thunder Hawk, and everything from the Proliferation pack don't have Ilclan variants and the Frankenmech Sneede II currently only exists as a record sheet with no TRO entry. They could also include entries for mechs from the other Star League Lances that haven't been publicly revealed.

I often play with unpainted units anyway, but it would be nice for those that no longer have the time or desire to paint hundreds of units, or new players or those that just hate painting in general.  I think they should take it one step further and offer a painted and unpainted option for each forcepack.

It's worse than the whole pack being painted, it's 1 miniature being painted per box. Which means... why would people want this?

You'll have to paint the rest of the unit to try and resemble the 1 in the box if its something you wanted to go with anyway. How is that going to end up? This was promoted on stream like it was a big hit. I dunno man.

If i only bought ForcePacks where I would use every ‘Mech, I wouldn’t have very many ForcePacks. If I can make use of 60% to 75% of ForcePack then I have no problem buying it.  I’ll even occasionally buy a ForcePack where I’ll only use half the contents for a ‘Mechs I’m really interested in. Any spare ‘Mechs can be used refining paint schemes or put aside for future projects.

Like the idea of nicely prepainted minis, but 1 in a box? Does really make sense to me either… 🤷‍♂️

Put 4 in a box and make it a special set, that would be pretty neat.

Do remember thought that they said its not going to be a unique mech that will be painted, so its not going to be the Atlas II etc, it'll be the Orion, and we've got Orions already.

Yes the pre-painted clicky tech stuff looked like it had been painted with a trowel or a potato cannon, but we should give it a chance before getting pitchforks and torches.

If its good, well we've already got X model that's unpainted and can get them, and if its not, when you base up your models, just base up this one.

The big concern is how much it'll affect prices.
