Favorite BT-Fiction Typo?
« on: 22 May 2024, 22:33:01 »
Found mine while reading Blood of Heroes for the first time.

Faced with the prospect of having to leave a crippled Lance-mate behind or have his whole force trapped, we get this gem from Alex Carlyle.

“That’s not an option, damn it,” Alex growled, thinking was just the kind of situation every MechWarrior dreaded.”

Ah yes, thinking.  Every Mechwarrior’s true fear.

Y’all have any other good ones to share?

LOL.

My next Mechwarrior is going to be named "Derp Diggler" in honor of this typo.

Ah, yes. The Galtor Campaign and its 1,000 tons of PPC ammo as the prize.
But as a matter of fact I was quite busy getting potty-trained at the time and had no time for interstellar politics.- ykonoclast

Probably the SLS Tripitz...

Which was almost certainly named after this warship:

Plus, it's a canonized typo, so it's not going anywhere.

I’m not familiar with the campaign in question, but “1000 tons of PPC ammo” sounds like a creative way to reclassify 1000 tons of fusion engine when haggling salvage rights…

Or a way to describe large containers of PPC (beverage).

So I actually looked it up for the purpose of a page reference and noticed I was a little wrong. The Galtor Campaign (FASA1613) p. 10 has a fluff box report from the AFFS about what's been found on Galtor and it includes the entry: PPC Loads 2,100 tons. Another fascinating entry is: 1 quarter-unit of fusion generating power 20,200 tons. Whatever that means.

The ebook of Heir to the Dragon renders Michi-kun as "Michigan" in one chapter. I keep meaning to submit an errata for it.

LOL - When I read that, I just thought that Michigan was his real name and everyone used his nickname Michi.

A friend of mine thought the same which is why I went looking, and pulled out my RoC reprint copy to check the passage there.

The earlier quoted error in Blood of Heroes chapter 1 remains my favorite, but this one that happens in chapter 8 while McCall is reminiscing about old friends stopped me cold.

Other names, other feces came to mind.

I can't remember where I read it, but I have a vague memory of seeing this explained as 1 "unit" of fusion generating power was enough fusion plant to power an average BT world, so a quarter unit would be the parts to build enough fusion plants to supply 25% of the average planet's power needs.

From the first printing of TRO: 3058’s Alacorn entry, which apparently got mangled at the printer’s.  It praises the tank’s “derastative repower” rather than its devastating firepower.
"We have made of New Avalon a towering funeral pyre and wiped the Davion scourge from the universe.  Tikonov, Chesterton and Andurien are ours once more, and the cheers of the Capellan people nearly drown out the gnashing of our foes' teeth as they throw down their weapons in despair.  Now I am made First Lord of the Star League, and all shall bow down to me and pay homa...oooooo! Shiny thing!" - Maximillian Liao, "My Triumph", audio dictation, 3030.  Unpublished.

Sounds like the person writing the entry had been a little too dedicated to calibrating the tracks.

There's also the warship named Flatus instead of Fiatus.  That one was a real gas.
