Despite the dated tech its much closer to the book than that awful one with Casper Van Dean.

If the MI suits just looked more like CBT Elementals... Since that's arguably closer to what the book describes.

It's no closer. It's still ridicules fascism, as was Verhoeven's intent, and it still posits his specific choice of using hordes of troops, All Quiet on the Western Front-style, rather than the small, elite forces of the novel. It's the movie with a facelift. It's only at the end title of the AI production that we get anything approaching the novel, specifically this cover.

It's still pretty, and the movie is one interpretation of the book focusing on themes the director has a personal, visceral relationship to.

There's always the Japanese anime-version

And all of a sudden, Casper Van Dean isn't so bad.

Actually, the Japanese version was more true to the book.

IIRC, three live action ones, two CGI ones and the CGI animated series (not counting the anime version).

I for one, liked the starship troopers movie.
I enjoyed it and the over-the-topness  The second one I tried to watch but fastforwarded just about all of it. The third one, Marauder, with the power suits, was also utter garbage until the very end where the Marauder suits were used. And that lasted for a short bit only.

tl;dr: don't bother with the sequels unless you really have to :cheesy:

I for one, liked the starship troopers movie.
I agree, as a sci-fi movie, it was pretty good.

It had JACK to do with the novel, other than "BUGS!", though I'm thinking they were more humanoid-looking in the novel.
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

Something to bear in Mind. Defending the BT IP is Frowned upon here.

If I remember right, the Starship Troopers Bugs! from the book were actually technologically advanced, they had guns and starships.
I think the more humanoid looking bugs were from the book Armor

Even if that was the case, i STILL liked the look of the bugs in the first film..  Especially the airborn ones.

Wish they'd do an update of the Microprose Starship Troopers game, the precursor for Mech Commander.

Some of those Bugs were physical models - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cylNnCaUI0 (this 6-minute video is only part 1 of 7)

Micropose's game has some, battle-armor in it.

I for one, liked the starship troopers movie.

I liked it too.  It wasn't a bad movie; just barely based on the book.

I still play it from time to time.  Even has a text file ike where you can edit the bugs attributes.  Especially speed.
