They don't have a Vincent, they have a Vigilant, huge difference.

They are not going to get any warship licenses.....even getting Dropship license is doubtful.

Mmm, no know producer, shame that one.
Does that mean, the moment the Hegemony is done for, it's a free licence?
And a real shame getting any dropships, will be difficult as well.

On that, look up the princess, same original producer as the Bastion.
All manufactoring destroyed, New Earth company, Nicholas Spacecraft.
Should thus be a relative cheap buy, more for it's licences then anything else.
Might thus get them some usefull licences.
And a Boeing Galax that has to pay them licence payments, which could then become a deal deal one, of let us use your licences for free and it's free for you as well.
Would give them a dropship, passengier as well, so two boxes, ticked off, in one go.
Would also let them make more defence stations, which is always a plus, as well.

2 November 2786
New Avalon (Federated Suns)

"Now what has Mitchell gone and done?" First Prince John Davion asked not even looking up from the paperwork he was working on.

"Besides pissing off AFFS Command, well all those companies that Gerald Mitchell purchased are heading for Mackolla. Several are already inside our borders and making their way to Mackolla. Newhart Industries has broken down their factory on Thorin and should be departing within the week according to intelligence. Fully capable of manufacturing Trident Aerospace fighters and had been doing so up until they started breaking down the factory."

"I heard about the pissing match. Mitchell did overstep his bounds, but at the same time, how can I fault his reasoning. Besides, him launching those kind of operations safeguards that sector of border plus places a strain on his funds. The Davion Light Guards are out there doing the same thing, just more restricted to our borders, have been for decades. Honestly, Mitchell has done more with less than the Davion Light Guards have and in less time. I have already sent for Mitchell to come to New Avalon, it is time to have another chat and try to explain to him the limits to what he can do and not do. I have already told Command to purchase that Invader Jumpship he captured, we can always use another Jumpship." First Prince John Davion said

"We have confirmed they have located quite a few Merchant Jumpships. A total of five have been spotted at Mackolla and two have been returned to service so far at the Olympic Station in the system. These reports are from civilian captains visiting the system. There is at least one more out there somewhere because they have a Merchant core being remote delivered due in about two weeks. A new company, Mitchell Transport and Freight is being formed, he submitted the paperwork anyway. Plus he put out a hiring call to staff it."

"Mitchell Transport and Freight, that might be the first time they have actually used their name on one of the companies. When Mitchell gets here I will make sure to ask him about these finds of theirs, I really think he is holding back on us. Until then, monitor the situation.

Terra (Terran Hegemony)

"That sorry SOB, he has uprooted the Newhart plant on Thorin." Major General Lauren Hayes said after reading the report and the scratching it from her target list.

"They are moving all of their purchased companies and employee's to Mackolla. Every single one."

"At least they fulfilled the last order we placed with them before they uprooted. The Trident is not the greatest but it is dependable. I saw a report about mass hirings of former SLDF personnel, what do we know about that?" Major General Lauren Hayes asked

"Froy Industries put out a call for corporate security forces and hired almost 4,000 personnel, they are also heading for Mackolla along with three other companies from New Earth. Then not long after Gerald Mitchell did the same thing, but it looking for former SLDF naval personnel for what looks like a Transport company, I have his incorporation paperwork heading this way, it still in transit to New Avalon to make it official. They are offering pretty good hiring bonus' and terms of employment."

"I will not fault them for that, I argued to maintain the SLDF pensions but Jerome refused saying he needed the money for the HPG rebuilding. Keep watch on the 79th and 123rd Mechanized Infantry Divisions, they are getting restless about defending the Terran Hegemony borders. Actually, pull their orbital assets so they cannot take off without orders. Personally, I feel the same way but most of our warships are still being repaired and strong as we are, we can defend Terra and maybe the closest systems but not the entire Terran Hegemony. To do more invites defeat in detail. Now, on another note, how do you feel about what Lieutenant General Mitchell is doing out there?" Major General Hayes asked

"Reports I have seen from the HPG staff is that they just completed a anti piracy sweep with good results. Seems the AFFS folks were not very happy about it and General Mitchell was a little terse in his responses back to them. Currently, they are defending four systems including Mackolla. What they are not getting is AFFS replacement personnel or supplies, not yet anyway. Intel thinks Davion is trying to absorb them entirely but is having some difficulty due to their recovery efforts in the Periphery keeping them with a positive cashflow. They have also been trying to purchase supplies and equipment on the open market but the AFFS is at the head of the line for those. They also seem to have located the 11th Hussar Regiment after their Jumpship broke down for years and absorbed them which the AFFS had a fit over, even forbid them from recruiting their own replacement personnel over it, yet are not supplying replacement personnel."

"You didn't answer my question. I have my own feelings on the matter and am curious about yours. Speak freely." Major General Hayes said

"If I was one of the former SLDF that had been demobilized, lost my pension, and didn't want to join one of the House or Mercenary units, that is where I would head if I knew about them. It is getting ugly around here and if I wanted to avoid getting pulled into another all out war, well I would pack my stuff, sell what I had to pay for a one way ticket to Mackolla and try to join up with them. It is far enough from everything that the risk is pretty minimal."

"I feel the same way as you do. I was angry about losing those three Monolith Jumpships and the equipment to bring them back up to strength when General Kerensky ordered it, but they are doing some good work out there, upholding the SLDF tradition and taking good care of those in their command. I hate losing the Trident production but I cannot fault them for uprooting and moving. It is better than risking the loss of their investment. I cannot openly support Mitchell or his people but how could we do so covertly, at least while Blake is gone but not weaken us here?" Major General Lauren Hayes asked

"Covertly? How to help them without hurting ourselves? Maybe getting word out about what they are doing out there, that could entice recruits to head that way, those that still long for military service but are hesitant to enlist in a House or Mercenary command. As for material without hurting ourselves here, that is harder but before he left General Kerensky ordered Krupp to destroy everything connected to the Dragoon series of Battlemechs, which we have been overseeing, the equipment for a single production line still remains and about two dozen Dragoon Battlemechs have not been torn down for scrap. Those could be sent out there along with all the data on them. Blake was quite adamant about fulfilling General Kerensky's order on those, he is leaving soon to speak to the House Lords. As to how to get it there, well there are three Jumbo Dropships, all former Rim World along with a former Rim World Liberty Jumpship that has not been scrapped yet, mainly because Blake ordered all available slips to be used to manufacture new Jumpships for Comstar." Saying the name Comstar was followed by a snort

"That is perfect. Make it happen, get it all packed up. Quietly get the word out about General Mitchell and the 322nd Armor Division and all that they are doing. Maybe we can staff the ships with new recruits for them. Get some of our fellow SLDF away from the coming madness." Major General Hayes ordered

As the 1SW starts to get ugly, they might receive a second wave of ex-SLDF members signed onto various house and mercenary units who find the sheer level of destruction taking place as distasteful and not something they want to be part of.  A wave of resignations that head to hook up with Mitchell is very possible if they keep their rep up.

Since Hayes and Blake have not done the Takeover of Terra for Comstar, there is those two divisions of troops in South America who do not want to join Comstar. Hayes could recommend to their Commanders they might want to transship to Mitchell's command out in the Perephery Edge at the Hegemony-in-Exile form I g out there. Maybe lightly push some SLIC and Units out still in Rim Republic space they could head over there if they do not want t any part of Stiener or Comstar.

Hayes should still be able to use SLIC and MilCom with some assurance that 'ComStar' (with lots of love):-), want brake the Mil codes yet. Maybe even tell the soon to be demobilized troops to bring any old RWR manufacturing and shipping with them on their long truck to new employment in the Davion Perepherh, and to use nonpopulated systems for transit so the Stieners and the Davion's don't see them.

The Dragoon?
That's ½ of the needed modularity they are going to need in the future.
Can they also get the Mercury it's modularity data?
And hey, if they apply that across all units...
Then they can ease their repair workload, quite a bit.

I don't just mean mechs, I also mean space assets, here, then that could make things easier, in the long run.
Quote
However, after the liberation of Terra, General Kerensky would order the purging of the design and the retooling of Krupp's two Dragoon production lines.
So one was already retooled?
Any Rampage lines left, by change?

And if they want to be stealthy, get some companies and company data copies, added as well.
To get them moving, bonus if they are wrecked, like say Coventry/Earthwerks Combine currently is.
Comstar should still have a few Firefly battlemechs laying around, as well, plus it's technical data.
And the Nightstar as well, including it's licence.
O boy, is the Comstar raid off New Earth, going to steal more of the surviving infrastructure?
Just in order to send it to Mackolle?
Here is hoping Mitchell Vehicles Interstellar is owned by the other Mitchell family branch.

The other thing they could potentially do, is include as much as they can, in terms of teaching materials & know-how.
Say, how many Howday's are left?
Throw in Elephant spareparts and...

If they want to be really sneaky, they add in a HQ with (mobile) HPG, like what they potentially stripped from New Earth it's SLDF HQ.
"It was stripped bare of everything already, by Kerensky."
Looks away, while NETC gets going on a transport trip to Mackolle.

As for the 79th and 123rd Mechanized Infantry Divisions, they could make it so they can steal certain key infrastructure data and so on, dropships, jumpships.
They now have a place they can send them too, thus taking them out of her hairs.
So if anything, pulling their transports, might actually be the wrong move, to get rid of them, without any pain, they could otherwise cause.
Will see what happens, there, though.
You do create quite the web to jump between, if so wanted.

Nice update and thanks for posting.

Looking like Prince John is about to stomp his own foot. If he allows himself a few moments alone without his advisors and most of his ego poisoning his thought patterns he could see an easy solution to this. Just let Mitchell pay his taxes on what he is doing, make expansion Mitchell's problem, and then assign him two additional nearby planets to garrison. Keep auditors on planet to monitor and let Mitchell be. Those units will go FedSun in time anyways and Prince John gains logistics and defense.

Enough of my rambling, tell Froy to return the purchase money since she backed out and get that sweet DHS production going.

Wrong, she managed to get three other companies, to move to Mackolle, but these companies refused the buyout.

As for handling John Davion, suggest taking out that pirate nation and turning it into a hidden FS blacksite, with Mackolle handeling the official stuff and getting the non-official stuff, too & from there.
A technology fall back point, from which the FS could recover any tech lost, if the worst happens.
If that works, you can get one heck of a crackling Hanse Davion.
Hell, it could result in John Davion creating a special bank account, for Mittchell to buy up any & all Hegemony Company, that he can lay his hands on.

"Want to take out the pirate nation in order to create a technology fall back site, this war will be worse then the Amaris Coup, in terms of destruction.

One thing I see the First Prince doing is trying to double down on Mitchell only having the AFFS to get recruits from. He wants Mitchell's unit as a part of the AFFS very very badly, so I think he is inclined to go a long with the AFFS's desire to try and force the issue sooner than later (I can very easily see the AFFS using a big beat stick to try and force Mitchell's unit into the AFFS via bureaucracy, laws and regulations that are twisted into pretzels to get what they want, perhaps changing regulations limiting the size of non-AFFS/Militia groups in the FedSuns), but not so much that he wants to push Mitchell into rebellion. Still, I expect he will be rather forceful in the matter and want some form of control over Mitchell and his unit, with the intention of making the unit AFFS within 30-50 years. I can't see the 1st Prince not aiming for that.

How it blows up in their faces, who knows (aside from the author), but it will be interesting as the hard headed and independent minded Mitchell squares off against John Davion in a game of 'Who Gets what'.

I wonder if the First Prince and Mitchell might come to some sort of compromise.  Mitchell can round up all of his SLDF orphans and forms it into an Outback based Brigade that is on the form of the future Borders units.  They stay deployed in the Outback, get a much wider range to see to but that frees up the Davion Light Guards and other AFFS units to be redeployed.  This could also help deal with the FedSuns refugee crisis that is just starting as people flee the Hegemony worlds to avoid the violence and economic disaster which will soon spread to the Davion worlds closest to Terra.  A circuit of Mackolla jumpships and dropships bringing all that new production military goods and recovered items up for AFFS use and returning with refugees to Outback worlds to become citizens helping with production of goods and resources.

if Mitchell is smart he'll start building up industry out in the former pirate system, get it built up as a fallback point even without Davion backing.

honestly if was Davion, i'd rig up Mitchell's command into a sort of 'foreign legion' arrangement. let him recruit, let him expand. just give him a noble title and a mission to guard the periphery region using his troops. that puts him under your thumb, also gives you an ally against other nobles and a source of troops you can draw on in emergencies.

could even set him up as the lord of a new territory, basically start the forging a new march around worlds he takes from pirates. this give him a mission to clear out the pirates, which would keep him busy and give his army building  and industrial ambitions purpose. it also limits him should he be inclined to take those worlds and build a new nation instead of staying loyal to the Fedsuns, since he'd not have nearly enough industrial support for independent existence for a number of generations to come. especially if his forces expand heavily with ex-SLDF troops flocking to his area.

and i'd imagine there might be a number of near periphery independent worlds willing to join the Fedsuns for protection from mitchell's troops, especially if he's able to knock out some the bigger pirate groups and demonstrate his forces have the ability to stop pirates.

9 November 2786
Mackolla (Federated Suns)

The message from summoning him to New Avalon for consultations was not entirely unexpected. That it had taken this long was surprising. Lieutenant General Samuel Mitchell was sitting on his small front porch when a woman approached and said "General Mitchell, I was told to hand deliver this message to you and wait for an answer."

"Who is it from and who are you?" Lieutenant General Mitchell asked as he accepted the small envelope.

"I cannot say who it is from nor will I tell you who I am."

"So we begin with mysteries, not the best way to start a relationship." He said as he opened the small envelope an extracted the message slip.

To: Lieutenant General Samuel Mitchell, 322nd Armor Division
From: Major General Lauren Hayes, Commander SLDF Forces Terra

This message was triple encoded before transmission, the woman before you works for me, not Comstar per se. I have been watching from afar on your actions in the Federated Suns and you are to be congratulated on your actions and also your extremely fair treatment of former SLDF personnel in recent recruitments. I cannot openly support you but am making arrangements to do so covertly. Before I proceed, I need to know that this assistance will not be in vain. A simple yes to the woman before you will be enough for me to proceed. Not only will it protect former SLDF but also assist you. This might be my last and only communication. Uphold the SLDF traditions and those of the Star League.

He looked up from the message and stared at the woman before him for several minutes. "Do you know what this says?"

"I am the one that decoded it and placed it in the envelope your holding."

"So that would be a yes to my question. You may reply that my answer is YES. And, if you happen to see General Hayes, send her my regards." Lieutenant General Mitchell replied to the woman's back as she was already walking away.

12 November 2786

He was waiting to take the shuttle up to the awaiting Jumpship that would take him to Sherwood where he would link up with a semi command circuit for the rest of the trip. He had refused Patricia's offer of letting him take SLS Second Chance, Vigilant Corvette, on the chance that this meeting went totally wrong. He had refused to take any of his troops or aides either. He was going alone.

He gave hugs all around and said "I might have to give the New Syrtis Carrier back to them quicker than I wanted, I was sort of saving it as our final bargaining chip. But I plan to extract my pound of flesh if I have to part with it this soon."

if mitchell was to break away from the fedsuns yes. i'm postulating the idea that he ends up begin a representative of the fedsuns. though i know it'll probably not happen that way.

Couple of questions and observations:

1. What can Mitchell and company produce once they get all the production lines set up? Do they have an ammo plant(s) capable of production of LRMs, SRMs, autocannon rounds, MG rounds, and other needed ammo? I know Froy can produce Arrow and Streak SRM-2 ammo, but what about the rest?

2. Endo Steel, XL engine production, and armor production of Standard or Ferro Fibrous? Can they make it on there own? Even if they only can make small batches of the stuff (say less than 100 tons a year for Endo Steel, a couple dozen XL engines) it would greatly help with repair and refit of units. Armor production is going to need to be at a higher rate just to keep up with the battle damage.

3. Can they long term keep up with the maintenance of what they have? Different engine sizes, refit and repair parts, weapons systems, etc.

4. Ok I understand the need for the warships (love the Tracker gunships as system defenders), but are they sustainable?

5. They need to think about getting some more energy based Mechs if possible to help with the short term logistical problems. Thinking about the Royal Phoenix Hawk-1b Special, Royal Griffin-2N, Black Knight-6b-KNT, and Flashman. The ground forces seem to be on the heavier side of tonnage.

6. Get rid of the Banshee's they just got. They are under-gunned for assault mechs. I am sure Davions or (as much as it turns my Davion stomach) the Taurians would love to get a company of assault mechs, for the right price.

Thanks for indulging my questions.

1) An ammunition plant was brought with them from initial run.....I have not laid out what it can actually produce yet, not yet set up

2) Endo Steel, yes, below 100 tons per year. Fusion engines not yet, they have the license for a bunch, but until Newhart's Trident Factory arrives, not yet. Armor production not in operation yet.

3) A problem that might appear down the road and need some creative solutions

4) So far yes they are, could change

5) They have quite a few all energy based Mechs license.....Crab, Ostwar, Guillotine, Hussar, Spider, but it might take a while before they actually can build any

6) Well, the Banshee 3M is not bad with a simple change, double heat sinks changes everything about the design. You can even reduce the number to free up tonnage for more weapons. Fairly simple upgrade too. Leave it over sinked and you can tape the trigger down.

Drop the singles, put in 11 doubles straight to the engine.  Gets you 5 tons.  Add 5 medium lasers. Take the small laser out and add half ton armor, if you feel like it.

Two range fire:
Long and medium: 2 PPC
Short: 7 Medium and a run for +1 heat

Did the same to an Archer:
Dropped the 20's to 15's
Changed to 11 double heat sinks
4 tons ammo
8 medium lasers total
Nasty suprise to those who get in it's face!

Well, they have a tool fabricator coming in and are now allowed to produce Snowdens.
Seems to me, as if they should combine the two, from the start.
Making it so they can scale things up a bit.

Still, 2ndArc, let them go for the Bastion & Princess licence, plus what ever else that company, had licences for.
Should give you some playing room, bonus if it also gives them Fortress, Seeker, Lion & Union data.
A Fortress and a Union, have some overlap, 6.000 & 6.700 tons, so even if they only get that Princess Licence, it might let them make a military variant, that fuses the Seeker & Fortress, their capacity.
In my mind, they can better go for the Princess, Seeker, Fortress & Collossus, if at all possible.

I can see that company, making other stations as well, like say, small & large habitats, alliance space station and so on.
Boeing Interstellar has the Capitol, which I think, they could use as well, as a more first layer of defence.
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Category:Space_Station_classes

Will see what will happen, 2ndArc, but the Princess & Bastion licences, are I bet, the cheapest for them to get, Nicholas Spacecraft had most of it's assets destroyed, but they can still demand a copy of the blueprints from Boeing Interstellar/Galax & Majesty Metals and Manufacturing, considering those folks are paying for using those licences.
So even if that company lost all it's own data, as long as it still has it's licences...

11 November 2786
Mackolla (Federated Suns)

Colin Blaine walked along the perimeter of the space port, like he always did after his morning run to cool down. He paused and thought for a second before mentally saying to himself "Screw it, I want to know what the hell is in them". He broke into a light jog towards a shuttle, he needed a ride up to the Olympus Station.

14 November 2786

He had redirected the shuttle soon after launch to head straight to where SLS Super Stallion, Monolith Jumpship, was normally hovering. The three Mule Dropships still attached to her docking points. He had changed into a simple jumpsuit before boarding the shuttle and could smell himself after three days wearing them. Once the shuttle docked, he was out in a flash heading for the ships bridge. Once there he pled his case for the ships Captain.

"We have got to know what is on those Mules. They are the only things we have not searched. Worst case, we ferry them down to Mackolla and park them on one of the uninhabited continents. At least they will be off your ship." Colin Blaine said

"You retired Mister Blaine. Look, I know who you are and who you were, but those are still sealed on orders of General Mitchell." Captain Marcy White replied

"I can get my cousin Commodore Mitchell on the radio, she can order you to break into those Mules." Colin Blaine said

"She might, or she might order me to arrest you. I would love nothing better than to get them off my collars, but your asking me to disobey a direct order and that is not something I am going to do." Captain White replied firmly

"Then we call Commodore Mitchell and see what she says." Colin Blaine said

It took 18 minutes between messages and made it difficult to plead his case, even on an encrypted channel, he had to speak in a round about way which made the conversation even harder.

"Patricia, I need you to order Captain White to get us a look at those last items."

"Colin, are you mad? What if something bad happens?

"Then we at least know. Right now they are limiting options. I am sure the Chief Engineer can be real careful. It is the one itch I have got to scratch."

 "Is she there?"

 "Yes."

"Captain White, break them open, very carefully. Let Colin scratch the itch. If safe bring them down."

"Aye ma'am, crack them open carefully and bring them down is if safe."

It took several hours for the engineers to get everything ready and setup. Colin Blaine stood out of the way while the engineers worked. The first Mule had it's locks jail broken in less than an hour. The door opened easily. Colin Blaine was the first inside the Mule Dropship and once he entered the lower cargo bay found himself staring at normal shipping containers. He had the engineers open one of the sealed containers open so he could see inside. Once it was opened he was staring at carefully packed machinery, manufacturing equipment of some sort. He ordered the container resealed.

They moved to the second cargo deck and again was staring at shipping containers. Opening one found more carefully packed machinery. The same thing was found on the third cargo deck. Once they were on the Jumpship he said "This one can go down."

The second Mule was stubborn and every attempt to jail break the lock failed. "Cut it open." He ordered the engineers. It took two hours of careful work to get the door cut open. This time, when they entered the cargo deck they found ammunition storage containers. All were former SLDF and had seen them many times before only these bore the symbol that just screamed nukes to all who saw it. "Nope. We are not opening any of those."

The Chief Engineer moved to the first container and read the label, all SLDF ammunition containers were labeled. "Alamo's. Nuclear armed Arrow IV missiles. Anti ship weapons for Aerospace Fighters. Should be eight of them in there."

"Well, at least we know what is on this Mule. On to the next one." Colin Blaine said, eager to get away from nukes of any type.

The third and last Mule was jail broke just as easy as the first one. Entering the cargo bay he was staring at shipping containers. "Break one open."

When the door was opened it caused Colin Blaine to almost have a heart attack at what he saw. He was facing a humanoid suit of armor. Once he calmed himself he peaked further inside and saw more of them secured firmly and with padding fitted around them. I have no clue what these are, but I wonder if the first Mule is connected to what is in here, he thought as he gestured for the container to be resealed. "This one goes down also. Fix the door on the second one and have a tug move her somewhere nice and safe. At least she will be off your ship."

Cephei (Unclaimed)

Captain Harvey Barclay watched the engineers work to clear the door they had discovered. With the right equipment, clearing the door of dirt and rock was accomplished quickly. The engineers studied the door closely. "This is going to take some time to break open. We have done it before, but it damned sure was not easy or quick."

Beautiful updates and thanks for posting.

Looks like Patricia's shipping company willsoonbe three Mulestothe good as soon as one gets repaired and taken to Morgan's Holdfast and emptied out. Everything about the other two is just pure icing on the cake. Gerald will have to hide Nighthawks from Prince John but it will be easier for him to doso then for Samuel. Here's hoping the manufacturing equipment is specialized to produce factory tooling. Just need the Taurians to come through on that Snowden and the race will be on to industrialize Mackolla.

Great ride so far, kind of worried how hard the hammer is going to drop  on Mitchell and company to make up for the good fortune.

Drop the singles, put in 11 doubles straight to the engine.  Gets you 5 tons.  Add 5 medium lasers. Take the small laser out and add half ton armor, if you feel like it.

Two range fire:
Long and medium: 2 PPC
Short: 7 Medium and a run for +1 heat

Did the same to an Archer:
Dropped the 20's to 15's
Changed to 11 double heat sinks
4 tons ammo
8 medium lasers total
Nasty suprise to those who get in it's face!

I did a similar idea for a 3S, the idea was the VOs mech got mangled but due to supply issues all you have is ppcs and mediums, ended up with 3 PPCs and 8 mediums with 27 sinks iirc

while i have no doubt that they'll find a way to use up the Endo and DHS , and the addition of the Dragoon mech is going to be a big help, i can see them focusing on developing the non-mech production heavily. remember, they're mostly Tankers, infantry, and naval people, so they'll largely be building off that expertise in developing their forces.

Agreed. The DHS will either be a great upgrade or a good money maker. The Endo will always be needed, and the biggest thing will be getting the tank and aircraft production started. Mech production would be better served at Morgan's Holdfast where it will have time To be perfected and help the training going on there.

Site 222 is probably the safest storage for the nukes, honestly... :)
