Active Minefields and Hovercraft
« on: 11 September 2024, 11:35:44 »
Page 177 of the sixth printing of Tactical Operations: Advanced Rules seems to indicate that hovercraft are not affected by active minefields unless they expend Jumping MP. This appears to be in error, as page 278 of the third printing of A Time of War explicitly states that active minefields target hovercraft passing over them.

In addition, the very same page of TO:AR specifies that hovercraft and non-airborne WiGEs entering a hex with a conventional minefield only detonate them on a roll of 12. That would imply that active minefields are meant to work differently, as AToW says.

Finally, page 176 of the sixth printing of Tactical Operations: Advanced Units & Equipment describes the use of active mines as being motivated in part by increasing numbers of hovercraft and WiGEs, which would not make sense unless they could trigger against them.

I also think that having active minefields trigger against hovercraft is just common sense, and it would provide a useful tool against tactics like Savannah Master swarms. It would also give WiGEs, which avoid triggering even active mines while airborne, a more distinct niche.
