House Selaj sends it's regards . . .
« on: 10 October 2024, 23:55:00 »
The boogeyman of House Selaj shows up in Hunting Season, which I am re-reading right now, and a POV character doubts the assassin is from Selaj.  She mentally questions IF they still existed, why did they not strike out before?  Why not come out during the chaos of the Jihad, when the League was fracturing to get revenge on the Mariks & Cameron-Jones?

It made me wonder . . .

Why did the Blakists never use that false-flag operation?  Misdirection is their thing, and the chaos it would sow in the already fractured League by having someone show up as the 'House of Selaj' heir, backed by some loyal troops and Blakist-bought mercenaries would set the Marik heirs and Cameron-Jones scrambling.

House Selaj has a mention in one of the Interstella Players books and they apparently declared themselves the guardians of House Marik and viewed the Blakists with suspicion. Who knows maybe there was some sort of shadow war going on. And in Jihad Hot Spots 3070 there is one reporter who says in his dying breath during the gassing of Atreus "The scourge..???" So in theory House Selaj was still on the mind of some people

Well, Players being a rumor book it is questionable - especially with Marik having hunted them out of existence.

But even if there were Selaj members alive after centuries In hiding it would not stop the Blakists from trying to put a proxy in place in Regulus- removing or weakening Titus would have changed the end of the Jihad.  Heck, it might have kept Gibson from being glassed.

As of 3062, Special Order 91 is still in effect.

" It gives SAFE the authority to execute any members of the Selaj family it uncovers, irrespective of location, age or status." (Handbook: House Marik, page 29).

I have not read anywhere that it was ever rescinded.

So, not a good bet to put one on any throne at any time, I guess...

You can't be the boogeyman for everything. Something has to get by you. With Fake Thomas Marik and the Master, they probably figured that the FWL was taken care of, and any results they got out of such a ploy wouldn't have been worth what they put in
