Design Challenge for October...
« on: 17 October 2024, 17:59:54 »
Okay, let's see what you guys can do with this:

Class: Light.
Objective: Make it BROKEN.

By 'Broken' I mean "they'll kick me out of the group if I show up at game night with this-but technically it's legal."

I want to see the most abusive thing you can do with a Light suit of battlearmor.  Any published optional rule you can find and cite, is acceptable here, so long as you can show where you got it if asked.

Tech Base: Any, including mixed.

Winner is the highest BV achieved.
"If you have to ask permission, then it's no longer a Right, it has been turned into a Privilege-something that can be and will be taken from you when convenient."

Scarily, BA Tube Artillery is only 27 BV and doesn't roll on the cluster chart when it hits a hex: they ALL hit the hex.  I think that's WAY more broken than any BV measure ever could be... ;)

Light BA is the minimum size necessary to mount the thing, since it's 4 spaces, and has to be in the body.  After the tube and chassis, you only have 150 kg to work with for armor, ammo and maneuverability.  Totally doable! :D

If you can, it's only 10kg, so it would definitely fit! :)

Not MWM; DWP. Drops the weight/size of a BATA to 375kg/1 slot. So...

Light BA 100kg
3 ground MP 90kg
2 Armored gloves
2 basic stealth armor 110kg 3 slots
DWP BATA 375kg 1 slot
BATA @10 75kg 3 slots

No clue about cost and BV, but given each squad is pretty close to a Sniper artillery piece in power I bet it would be hated a lot.

What am I missing?  It sounds like you're talking about a Squad Weapon... ?

The Detachable Weapon Pack is a different system that makes the weapon lighter, but it also slows down the suit as long as it is mounted. So in the example of a suit carrying an artillery piece, it would have more room for things like shells, but it would also probably have to ditch it to flee if it was close to being overrun.

However, DWPs can't be mounted on light suits, and battle armor tube artillery may be excluded from being mounted in them either because they count as missiles (because of how their ammo is placed), or because they have to be explicitly mounted in the torso rather than in a separate mount in the torso.

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Ah the DWP,  tailor made for units with Mimetic Armor.

See Taranis BA for how to use the DWP correctly.

Ok, I'm definitely missing something, then... the DWP I see in my Tech Manual is only usable for missile packs, and adds 10kg to a launcher.  Where is the mass reduction?  The only way I know how to do that is with a Squad Mount...

Found it... TO:AUE page 99 (and 98 for the construction rules).  It can't be installed on a Light Suit at all.

Bugger. Missed the light BA restriction.

But... I forgot this was about maximum brokeness:

Light IS BA 100kg
3 jump 75kg
1 basic clan stealth armor 30kg
BATA 500kg
@6 45kg

The advantage though, is that it can jump without restriction! :D

Just realized I probably goofed again, thought. pretty sure the ammo needs to go in the same location as the gun just as with missile launchers.

Might still work with a 3 MP quad, thought... :undecided:

That is true.  Page 96 of TO:AUE refers:
Quote
During construction, BA Tube artillery ammunition is treated in the same way as BA missile ammunition.

So... 5 MP, 4 rounds of ammo, 1 standard (clan) armor. Eh, maybe starting to make too many compromises there.
