Anyone collect Star Wars Black Series figures?
« on: 19 November 2024, 19:33:19 »
I had a few figures from this series and apparently I have used collecting them as a coping method for not receiving my KS yet. My collection ballooned from 4 figures to over 30 since July. I'm not a completist, thank God! I've picked and chose the figures that tickled my fancy. Pretty much anything Mandalorian, with Imperial troopers of various types. Also the Bad Batch in their TF 99 livery. Just curious if anyone else collects and what figures they're into. What figures would you like to see released or reissued in the future? Also, Vintage Series collectors feel free to join in!

I've thought about picking up a few of the more generic mandos, like the deathwatch mando to try my hand at repaints/customizing. I've just not bitten the bullet yet. Now that IKEO and some of the forcepacks are about to be released, I may have to split my hobby dollars more evenly.

I just get the ones I like the looks of mainly.  But yeah, MOST are from, The Mandalorian (including the "Heavy Gunner" guy!), aside from the Christmas and Halloween specials.  I've also got Black Krrsantan.

I have most of the originals, except for Luke in Stormtrooper Armor, and Amanaman.   :smilie_happy_thumbup:  Didn't get many of the vehicles, but I still have Slave I, an AT-AT, Y-Wing, Patrol Dewback, and Imperial Troop Transporter.  Also have most of the Death Star Playstation!

I started collecting them again when Ep 1 came out, but they quickly outpaced me, their numbers versus what I could afford to buy.   :undecided:  Then it dawned on me.  I have no kids, so NO ONE to leave them to, so Why bother?  But yeah, I started getting the Black Series just because I like the looks of them.

These days though, the ones the size that I bought for $1.88 back into the mid-80's, THOSE are now going for $25.00 at Wal-Mart!
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

I thought the prices were wrong when I looked at the vintage collection figures. They're the same price as the 6" figs! It's getting ridiculous but thankfully, I've gotten most the figures I really wanted.

Nope, too dang expensive.

Sorry, I'm old, if I paid $3 as a kid, I'm fairly certain I should still be paying $3 today.

Manufacturing has only gotten easier

WTH, I don't recall them that cheap.
Maybe the 2.97 price I'm recalling was GI-Joe & the Mini-Transformers.
Actually that probably makes sense, because most SW was gifts since I was too small to even have a paper route to buy my own.

who ever is making them now is trying to unload thdem if you want them just buy them saw them at helmart about a week ago for less than 5 bucks and target is doing same. apparently investors in the manufacturer are trying to claw them back for all the money they can get back so company is selling the stock as fast as they can at considirble loss at least thats what trades are saying and few hobby channels on hecktube

A few years back, I saw some Star-Wars figures at the 99-Cents store, but, I ignored them for matchbox-sized X-Wings that could work on an Aerotech map-sheet.

Maybe I got them that cheap towards the end of the first "Run" of them, after RotJ came out?     Want to say I got a few around $1.77 even, I'm thinking at Kay-Bee Toys, shortly before they folded.  Thinking back though, seems like they were "Normally" closer to $2.00, maybe $2.25?   :undecided:

They're STILL not worth $25.00 at that size!  :cussing:

No no, you were right.

I went to a vintage Kenner website after I posted & found pics with $1.88 right on the cardboard as part of the packaging.

I'm sure now the figure I had in my head was from a few years later when I had a little of my own $$ & was buying GI Joe/Transformers.

As someone whose primary interest in the toy aisle is still the Transformers section, I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the Black Series Lando Calrissian.

Mind you, between hollow limbs, mis-assembled hinges, brittle plastic, and in-package yellowing, being more impressive than Hasbro’s current offerings isn’t really a high bar.

I haven't noticed much issue with any of those from Transformers figures since Power of the Primes ended.  On the other hand, I have noticed that the price of Voyager and Deluxe class toys has nearly doubled in the last few years.

We have some durable, quality Transformers from early in War for Cybertron.  But others, like the Amazon-exclusive Sideswipe re-skin was paired with a re-skin of Blitzwing (I think) showed up broken in the box and un-transformable.

On topic, between my two boys and I we probably have a dozen Black Series a piece.  My oldest loves Clones, while my oldest is in to the Separatists.  I matched by Kenner figures with the 40th Anniversary figures and hung them on my wall.  My biggest gripe is the store exclusives become impossible to find.

Hmm, don't recall that particular two-pack.  But I generally avoided ones that were redecos of characters I already had.

This was the Autobot Alphastrike Counterforce exclusive to Amazon.  Ordered one, arrived broken; re-ordered after return, arrived broken.

Yup, the one-star reviews on Amazon highlight the same experience from about the same time frame.

Sadly, the fact of my old Star-Wars action-figures didn't survive me watching Aliens in Junior-High and creating an Alien-next in my Defiant GI-Joe shuttle-bay, with glue, glossy red-paint and a hot-hanger heated by a stove's burner were I made chestbuster-exits.

For reasons I can't remember, I used my Dad's Dremel tool to cut the wings off of my X-Wing.   :embarrassed:  It was only the FIRST SW Vehicle I got, I think for my Birthday in '77?

At least all of my figures survived!

1.  This makes me so sad.  I so wish I still had my X-Wing.   IIRC Luke's Speeder was my first SW toy (vehicle).
I feel like I got that one early in the year & then at X-Mas got a bunch of spaceships.
2.  Probably 78,  check out this website for a bunch of collected old SW stuff.   http://theswca.com/images-toys/figuretoys/
3.  Gratz on the Figs!  I sold all mine for 25-50 cents each some time around RotJ & bought GI.Joe with the $$.   Ugh.  Why Why Why, LOL.

When I look at that website list I had a TON of SW/ANH & ESB stuff but must have transitioned to new toys by RotJ since I don't think I have a single thing from 1982+

Yeah, I went to town on my old-toys, cutting them up and creating, "Art".  And I didn't really need Star-Wars toys to play Star-Wars.  I had a GI Joe Boat, that became my A-Wing Fighter and I was happy.

And the Millennium Falcon broke in half, and I used the top-potion, as an Aliens base, which my toy-soldiers*, advanced into on a terraformed, rainy Venus.

*I got these cool, toy-soldiers from Target '89-'90ish, that were the right size, but I can't find them anywhere; they were all in science-fiction armor, with pulse-rifles and steady-calms.

EDIT: It was Galoob Toys, called X-panders.

One thing I didn't like about the Xpanders, is that each side wasn't unique; they were the same, just painted a different-color.

And I'm drooling over this; I had the Timmee: Galaxy Laser Team/Star Patrol when I was a single-digit kid; and some-kid(s) had the Britains: Stargards/Star System, because some of that found it's way into my collection; I think I know who it was.

I don't recall the 90's ones but yes, I had Army Men as they were called in the 70's & yes, Firecrackers, & lighterfluid/matches, & oh probably worse things, is where they ended up.

My friend also had a line of thin plastic warship stands, so a battleship in profile, about the size of your finger or maybe a bit bigger.
Those also got matches lit & set on them to show "naval battles" and burning fleets.
