Simplified rules for space combat?
« on: 24 November 2024, 07:41:01 »
Are there any simplified rules for space combat? I'm thinking along the lines of Alpha Strike simple.

I'm working on a campaign where the players will need to get past space defences in a solar system to land and operate; small-scale stuff, maybe a dropship and an escort or two vs what the local system can muster.

Thanks!

Actually there is Alpha Strike for Aerospace. It is in Interstellar Ops and the old Alpha Strike Companion book.

Nice one, thanks. Feels like it could maybe use a bit of streamlining--the section on movement between areas on maps at different scale is tough going--but looks fun overall.

Yeah it's a little tough but makes sense for scale. I marked the MP needed in each zone on my larger radial map for ease of reference

The Battleforce rules found in the IO rule book were intended as a step up to the abstract scales that definitely keep the ease of play design intended for Alpha Strike.  I use this attached player aid to remember the different movement rates between the abstract maps from jump in point to atmospheric entry.  There's a bit of some home brew customization that I've preferred over the purely abstract forms, as I enjoy the tactical forms and wished to retain them along with the low alt map.  Let us know how you worked it out.  I play primarily Battleforce with advanced rules and use the higher scales for movement and engagement control.  It's tricky, but you can retain the combat values of different scales while taking advantage of the movement patterns of those that are higher if you are not playing with the force size necessary to invoke the higher scales.
