VoidBreaker has a cover and a release date
« on: 04 December 2024, 13:04:42 »
Bleeding Cool broke the news with a reveal of the cover and a release date for the book. It's coming January 24, 2025. Click over there to see the cover: https://bleedingcool.com/pop-culture/battletech-voidbreaker-reveals-cover-art-with-release-date/ I'm obviously biased, but I think it's a GREAT looking cover. They also have a bit of a more detailed synopsis.

It looks like someone doesn't think their Mech is dropping fast enough.  Fun shot, though.

Glad to see that Clan Sea Fox is getting the star treatment!  The cover art has an ominously fun look to it.

Tucker Harwell is thinking: "Again?!" *Sigh* "I hope these guys at least don't give me brain damage."
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Most likely a specialized infantry unit dropping with mech support, something we don't see or read about often in the BTU. Epic cover, hope to see more dynamic art like this in the future with both mechs and ground pounders.

Probably, but it is more fun to think of the Warrior abandoning their 'Mech for "reasons".

A bitter technician farted in the mech before sealing the hatch and it finally got to be too much for the warrior once in lower atmosphere?

The mechwarrior wanted to reenact the scene from Titanfall so insisted on landing first?

Clan Sea Fox want to be the ones with the most badass example of Newton's Second Law of Motion?

Looks confused for a second when the German ticket master is speaking in English, then starts scrambling for my ticket.

The cover and blurb have also been posted to the Amazon Kindle preview page.

For my part, I'm wondering if this book is going to make mention of the Scorpion Empire, not least since the Goliath Scorpions have HPGs that were not affected by the Blackout - to include the HPG relay they are in the midst of running from the Empire proper to their new holding in the Chaine Cluster at last reporting.

Or to put it another way: it would be instructive to see how much Clan Sea Fox knows of these developments, given their interactions with the Scorpions both in the Empire proper and across the Chainelane Isles; and, if so, to what (if any) extent this knowledge is spurring their own efforts to get the Inner Sphere and near Periphery network up and running...

....perhaps in order to pre-empt a potential rival, in case the Scorpion Khan and zarKhan decide to leverage their own HPG technology with potential negotiating partners in the region?

Actually, it would also be interesting to see how much Tucker Harwell (and, by extension, the Republic intelligence service) had been made aware of the Scorpion HPGs prior to the fall of Terra.

I was hoping there would be some irony that Tucker was absolutely unsuccessful and Sea Fox did it themselves. But interesting, Tucker would only be on the Sea Fox project for less than two years before they start to get it working. Maybe a meeting of the minds is what it took?

Or Tucker's been working on it for years and the sea foxes had the final peice of the puzzle

I would be infinitely happier if Sea Fox did it entirely themselves and Harwell's work was a complete dead end. I like that type of storytelling

I agree. Thrusting Tucker back into the role of "the HPG guy" is something of a devolution of his character at this point. Tucker's breakthrough with the Wyatt HPG is seventeen years in the past by 3152 and the end of Bonfire of Worlds was about nine years, which was when he essentially stopped being a HPG guy and took up his second profession of freelance spook and Keeper of Secrets. You could expect professional skill degradation and experience loss under even optimal circumstances given that much time passing, and Tucker's circumstances were hardly ideal what with the torture and brain damage and all.

The end of ilClan even seems to set Tucker up as a foil to the Wolves with the Watch losing sight of him. I was looking forward to an arc that depicted him as a sort of "Undesirable Number One" for the Third Star League, constantly popping up to ruin the appearance of total control that Alaric is trying to project while coordinating the various post-Republic factions opposing the ilClan in the Sol System.

I'd hate to see him go back to merely being Tucker Harwell: Big Brain.

I like to completely subvert the protagonists. I would love if in the next Capellan novel, Denai breaks her neck and dies stepping out of the shower on page 50.
