Miniatures of the Fortnight #174: Icarus II and Hector
« on: 02 January 2025, 22:11:10 »
In the first few decades after the Mackie debuted, the other Inner Sphere nations worked to build their own BattleMechs. The Free World League built the Icarus, later adding jump jets to create the Icarus II, and the Hector. I won't claim these were the best 'Mechs of the time but the Free Worlds League held their own with these, and later others. To learn more about these 'Mechs, see The Eagle's 'Mech of the Week article for indigenous FWLM 'Mechs in the Age of War. (This technically doesn't cover the Icarus II but, at time of writing, there isn't a separate article for the Icarus II.)

The Icarus has no sculpts but the Icarus II has two:
  • The metal sculpt from Iron Wind Metals (20-5002)
  • The plastic sculpt from CGL's Proliferation Force Pack
The Hector only has a single sculpt (20-5063).

If you have any of these painted, please share pictures. We'd love to see them!

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • 1/13: Watchman and Sentry
  • 1/27: Firebee and Koschei

The Icarus model actually looks pretty good. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I have yet to find a Catalyst redo of a 'Mech which hasn't helped it look a lot better.

That doesn't help make it a good 'Mech, but one is more likely to try things if they don't look terrible.

Icarus II in metal and the Hector.  I really must not have loved these mechs much, as they seem badly posed.
